BATIK AIR opens a new international route from Pontianak to Kuala Lumpur in early January 2026. This route expands international flight connectivity for residents of Kalimantan, Java, and central and eastern Indonesia, eliminating the need to start their journey from major cities like Jakarta or Surabaya.
The Pontianak (PNK)–Kuala Lumpur (KUL) route will be served three times a week on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Saturdays starting January 6, 2026. The return route, Kuala Lumpur–Pontianak, will begin operating on January 5, 2026, with flights on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Sundays.
Through Supadio International Airport in Pontianak, passengers from cities such as Ketapang, Putussibau, Sintang, Semarang, Yogyakarta, Balikpapan, and Makassar can now connect to Kuala Lumpur with shorter travel times and an integrated flight system.
According to Batik Air’s Corporate Communications Strategic Officer, Danang Mandala Prihantoro, said the opening of this route is part of a strategy to strengthen regional and international connectivity.
“Batik Air offers convenient international travel from various cities in Indonesia via Pontianak to Kuala Lumpur. This is a solution for people who have previously had to take longer land or air journeys to fly abroad,” Danang said in an official statement on Monday (12/22), 2025.
Danang explained that Kuala Lumpur was chosen because it serves as a strategic hub connected to the Batik Air and Lion Group flight network to more than 40 domestic Malaysian cities and various international destinations.
From Kuala Lumpur, passengers can continue their journey to several cities in Southeast Asia, such as Bangkok, Hanoi, Phuket, and Singapore; South Asia, such as Delhi, Mumbai, and Colombo; East Asia, such as Seoul, Tokyo, and Hong Kong; and the Middle East and Australia, including Jeddah for Umrah pilgrimages.
“This connectivity not only facilitates tourism and business travel, but also provides an alternative Umrah route via Kuala Lumpur with full service and convenient transit,” said Danang.
In addition to supporting passenger mobility, the opening of this route is expected to stimulate regional economic growth by increasing community mobility and tourism activities.
To facilitate travel planning, Batik Air also provides an integrated booking service through the BookCabin app, from ticket purchases and hotel reservations to online check-in. [sources/photo special]
