BANDUNG has made it into the top three most popular tourist destinations in Asia, according to the latest New Horizons rankings from the digital travel platform Agoda. Nationally, Bandar Lampung is listed as the fastest-growing destination in attracting international tourists.

Meanwhile, Garut emerged as the most popular domestic destination, and Shenzhen demonstrated strong growth as an international destination for Indonesian travelers.

Agoda’s annual New Horizons report compares accommodation booking rankings over the past two years to identify destinations with the most significant growth in international travel in the region.

Based on combined data on the most popular destinations among Asian travelers, Sapa (Vietnam) tops the list as the fastest-growing destination in Asia. This Vietnamese Mountain destination is followed by Okayama (Japan), Bandung (Indonesia), Matsuyama (Japan), and Takamatsu (Japan) as the top five Asian destinations with the highest growth in international travel interest.

According to Gede Gunawan, Senior Country Director of Agoda for Indonesia, said we are seeing a shift in the way travelers choose their holiday destinations.” Now, more and more people are looking for places with open spaces, fresh air and a more relaxed atmosphere.

“This trend is evident in the growing interest in secondary destinations, including the rising popularity of Bandung in Asia, as well as the growth of Bandar Lampung and Garut domestically,” he said.

He explained that international travel also continues to grow, with Shenzhen becoming a favorite choice for Indonesian tourists. Through Agoda, travelers can easily explore these destinations with a variety of attractive and affordable offers, ensuring everyone can enjoy their dream trip without breaking the bank.

Bandar Lampung recorded a rise in ranking from 34th to 28th, making it the fastest-growing destination for international tourists visiting Indonesia. The popularity of a baby elephant named Nisa from Way Kambas National Park, which went viral on social media, also boosted tourist interest, in addition to pristine beaches, beautiful natural landscapes, rich culture, and a variety of regional culinary specialties.

Meanwhile, Garut became the highest-growing domestic destination for Indonesian tourists, rising to 34th from 40th. Known as the “Switzerland of West Java,” Garut offers captivating natural beauty, from the White Crater, serene lakes, to majestic waterfalls. This destination also attracts tourists with its rich local culture, distinctive cuisine, and cool mountain air.

For international travel, Shenzhen (China) tops the list as the fastest-growing outbound destination, jumping from 44th to 35th place.
