SULTAN Mahmud Badaruddin II International Airport (SMB) Palembang has resumed international flights on the Singapore–Palembang–Singapore route. Scoot officially launched the route, marked by its inaugural flight on Thursday, (01/15), 2026.
According to Ahmad Syaugi Shahab, General Manager of SMB II International Airport, the inaugural Scoot flight departed from Singapore (SIN) for Palembang (PLM) at 6:05 a.m. Western Indonesian Time (WIB), returning to Singapore at 7:20 a.m. Western Indonesian Time (WIB).
“The reopening of the Singapore–Palembang–Singapore international route is an important milestone in the recovery and improvement of international air connectivity from Palembang,” said Syaugi.
He considered the reactivation of the route a positive step to boost the tourism sector and business travel mobility. Furthermore, this route has long been anticipated by the people of South Sumatra, given that Singapore is a favorite destination for passengers flying from Palembang.
“Scoot’s flights to Singapore will operate four times a week, every Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Saturday,” explained Syaugi.
Ahmad Syaugi said that the latest flight schedule information can be accessed through Palembang Airport’s official social media channels. The flights are operated using an Embraer 190-E2 aircraft with a capacity of 112 passengers.
“Passengers are also provided with carry-on baggage allowance, consisting of suitcases and backpacks with a maximum total weight of 10 kilograms,” he said.
Syaugi explained that Singapore has long been known as a top destination for tourism and business travelers from Indonesia. Its relatively close proximity, easy transportation access, and diverse culinary and shopping options make the country a popular destination for travelers from South Sumatra.
SMB II Palembang International Airport previously served flights to the same destination with several airlines, including AirAsia, Lion Air, Tiger Airways, and others, before SMB II Airport was downgraded to a domestic airport in 2020. [sources/photo special]
