INDONESIA-ALGERIA TOURISM COLLABORATION, STRENGTHEN NORTH AFRICAN MARKET

THE INDONESIAN Ministry of Tourism recently received a delegation from the Algerian National People’s Assembly (APN) at the Sapta Pesona Building in Jakarta. This meeting marked the first step in strengthening tourism cooperation and strengthening friendly relations between Indonesia and Algeria.

Deputy Minister of Tourism, Ni Luh Puspa, welcomed the Chairman of the Algerian APN, Mohamed Yazid Benhemmouda, along with the delegation and representatives from the Algerian Embassy.

Ni Luh assessed that this inaugural meeting opened up opportunities for collaboration that could have a direct impact on the community, particularly tourism players, Micro Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs), local tour guides, and investors.

Data following the COVID-19 pandemic shows that the flow of Algerian tourists to Indonesia has grown by around 25%, in line with the increasing volume of trade between the two countries.

“This presents a strategic opportunity to strengthen the North African market and develop Muslim tourism, while also encouraging knowledge transfer through the existence of six tourism polytechnics under the auspices of the Ministry of Tourism,” said Ni Luh Puspa.

During the meeting, Algeria expressed interest in studying Indonesia’s track record in managing religious and natural tourism, two sectors that are also a focus for tourism development in their country.

This shared vision opens up space for strategic collaboration to increase tourist visits by offering unique and complementary experiences between a maritime nation and a desert continental country.

“Indonesia and Algeria also share a common vision in developing cultural tourism,” said the Deputy Minister of Tourism.

Martini Mohammad Paham, Deputy for Resources and Institutions at the Ministry of Tourism, stated that although the collaboration is still in its early stages, this meeting lays an important foundation for preparing sustainable tourism promotion.

“The direction of future cooperation will focus on policy support from the legislative bodies and parliaments of both countries, as well as creating a conducive investment climate for entrepreneurs to build a globally competitive tourism ecosystem,” Martini concluded. [traveltext.id]
