PT ANGKASA Pura Indonesia (InJourney Airports) confirmed that flight operations at Terminal 3 of Soekarno-Hatta International Airport in Tangerang, Banten, have returned to normal after previously experiencing diversions due to bad weather.
“It’s back to normal, but there were delays because some flights were held, some landed late, and there were diversions,” said Yudistiawan, Assistant Deputy for Communication and Legal Affairs at PT Angkasa Pura Indonesia’s Soekarno-Hatta Airport Branch, on Monday (04/6), 2026.
He emphasized that the flight disruption was not caused by a leaking ceiling at one point in Terminal 3, but rather by the severe weather conditions that hit the airport area, reaching extreme levels.
The bad weather prevented several flights from taking off or landing as scheduled, requiring holding, go-arounds, and diversions to other airports for safety reasons.
He further stated that based on data from the Airport Operation Control Center (AOCC), 12 flights were diverted to other airports, 14 flights underwent holding procedures, 13 flights performed go-arounds, and 1 flight returned to the apron (RTA).
As weather conditions improved, all flight operations have now returned to normal, although there were still delays due to previous schedule adjustments.
He stated that the decision to delay or divert flights rests with the pilot and is also based on direction from air navigation authorities, such as AirNav Indonesia.
He stated that operations began returning to normal around 2:00 PM WIB, when the rain subsided and arrivals and departures gradually resumed.
“The rain stopped around 2:00 PM WIB. That’s when the rain stopped. Flights began landing one by one, and departures began as well,” he said.
He further stated that the leaking ceiling incident only occurred at one location, at Gate 7 of Terminal 3 International Departures, and had no direct impact on flight operations.
He explained that the heavy rain caused water to overflow and seep through the ceiling, which then collapsed under the weight of the water. However, it did not directly disrupt flight operations.
He also confirmed that no passengers were directly affected by the leaking ceiling, as the area was evacuated and passengers were moved to other gates.
As a response, the affected area was immediately localized, cleared of standing water, and reorganized to ensure the safety and comfort of airport users.
Going forward, InJourney Airports will conduct a comprehensive evaluation of the condition of the Terminal 3 roof to prevent a similar incident from recurring and to increase preparedness for extreme weather.
“After this, we will evaluate the overall condition of the roof (of Terminal 3 at Soekarno-Hatta Airport) to prevent a recurrence,” Yudistiawan concluded. [antaranews]
