THE ART of layering in summer is about simultaneously creating comfort, lightness, and elegance. The need to create an elegant look using lightweight materials and styles can create a breathable look without feeling bulky.
As reported by the Hindustan Times, Tuesday recently, creative designer and director of Gargee Designer Ravi Gupta said that in summer, you can still layer with smart techniques.
According to Ravi, the key to creating comfortable summer layers begins with fabric selection. Fabrics like synthetics tend to be very thick and don’t provide enough ventilation to prevent body heat from trapping inside.
He recommends choosing breathable fabrics like linen, cotton, modal, and tencel over synthetics due to their cooling properties.
He emphasized that linen is preferred in summer for its lightness, while cotton offers lightness and comfort for casual wear. Other fabric examples include sheers and mesh, which can be used to create layers without adding bulk.
“Similarly, it’s important to pay attention to the fit of your clothing,” said Ravi.
Meanwhile, layering techniques in summer also need to be done more effectively, easily, and without fuss. Tight clothing restricts air circulation, which can be uncomfortable in hot weather. However, oversized or loose silhouettes make clothing more comfortable, as air can pass through them easily.
“One of the most effective summer layering techniques is to create the appearance of layers visually, not literally,” Ravi added.
To create a more defined silhouette, a button-down shirt worn over a tight tank top or thin t-shirt will allow for better air circulation. Fine knits draped over the shoulders or around the waist will also add more texture without adding bulk.
A thin shirt or knit top can make someone look like they’re wearing several layers while still feeling very light and comfortable. Another example of layered clothing for summer is a sleeveless vest made of linen or another lightweight fabric.
Meanwhile, for individuals who prefer to wear fewer layers, accessories are a good option to create the same effect. Ravi suggests a lighter bandana, a sweat-wicking scarf, jewelry, or brightly colored socks paired with loafers or sneakers to add character without adding discomfort to an outfit.
Color is also key when dressing for summer. Pastel hues, soft neutrals, and white will help keep the body cool while creating a polished look. [antaranews]
