THE MINISTRY of Tourism stated that it continues to hold extensive discussions with the Ministry of Transportation regarding the high aviation fuel prices that are affecting air transportation connectivity and, consequently, the economic sector.
“We, along with the Ministry of Transportation, are communicating with the domestic aviation industry to jointly maintain the domestic aviation industry ecosystem, which will have a positive impact on maintaining the sustainable growth of the national tourism sector,” the ministry told antaranews in Jakarta on Saturday (06/13), 2026.
The Ministry of Tourism stated that it has collaborated with the Ministry of Transportation and other relevant agencies to implement strategic mitigation efforts to control domestic airfare increases due to the impact of the aviation fuel price hike. This will ensure ticket prices remain affordable for tourists, thus encouraging domestic travel, in line with the #Bangga Berwisata or ProudToTravelinIndonesia campaign.
The government is striving to create a healthy tourism ecosystem by providing affordable ticket prices and implementing flight efficiency measures.
This is similar to what the government recently implemented through Ministerial Decree No. KM 1041 of 2026 concerning the Amount of Additional Costs (Surcharges), which allows airlines to implement a fuel surcharge of up to 50% of the upper limit tariff (TBA), following the increase in aviation fuel prices that occurred in May 2026, reaching an average of IDR29,116 per liter.
Previously, through Ministerial Decree No. KM 83 of 2026 concerning fuel surcharges, the government officially increased the fuel surcharge for aviation fuel by 38% in line with the soaring aviation fuel price. This adjustment is expected to trigger a 9% to 13% increase in domestic airfares.
Meanwhile, to alleviate the burden of operational costs that have resulted in rising airfares, the government is covering the 11% value-added tax (VAT DTP) specifically for scheduled domestic economy class commercial airfares and is providing an incentive in the form of a reduction in import duties on spare parts to 0%.
