GOVERNMENT UTILIZES FORMER HOTEL SULTAN ASSETS FOR PUBLIC WELFARE

DEPUTY Minister of State Secretary, Bambang Eko Suhariyanto, stated that the government is preparing to utilize the former Hotel Sultan assets for the greatest prosperity and welfare of the people.

“These assets must be utilized as much as possible for the prosperity and welfare of the people,” Bambang said ahead of the execution of the former Hotel Sultan in the area of Block 15 GBK, the former Hotel Sultan, Jakarta, on Thursday.

Bambang explained that the land of the former Hotel Sultan is a state asset acquired by the government around 1959 for the hosting of the 4th Asian Games in Jakarta.

He said that President Prabowo Subianto has directed that government assets previously controlled by other parties be returned to the control of the state and the government.

According to Bambang, the former Hotel Sultan assets have been used by PT Indobuildco for approximately 50 years. Once returned to the state, the assets will be utilized for the benefit of the wider community.

Meanwhile, Chandra M. Hamzah, attorney for the Gelora Bung Karno Complex Management Center (PPKGBK), added that the legal dispute between the state and PT Indobuildco has been ongoing for approximately 20 years.

He stated that the settlement of the case demonstrates that the government followed applicable legal procedures, leading to the issuance of a court order for the eviction.

“This proves that the government and the state are complying with existing legal procedures. Previously, Indobuildco’s attorney said there was no eviction order. Now, I am demanding that there is a court order for the eviction. We are demanding that Indobuildco’s attorney fulfill that statement. Therefore, today, the Central Jakarta District Court will carry out the eviction,” he said.

According to Chandra, the court ruling states that all land, buildings, and everything attached to the former Sultan Hotel area are state property and have been registered as state assets.

Regarding employees working at the former Sultan Hotel, the government will collect data on permanent employees, daily employees, and workers with fixed-term employment contracts (PKWT).

“Regarding employees, this is a concern of the Deputy Minister of State Secretariat himself. We will accommodate that. We will record who are full-time employees, who are daily workers, and who are fixed-term employees,” he said.

Meanwhile, regarding the planned utilization of buildings and facilities in the former Sultan Hotel area, Chandra said the government has prepared a plan that will be submitted at the appropriate time.

“We will do that later. We already have a plan. We will announce it in due course,” he affirmed.

The execution of Block 15 of the former Sultan Hotel on Thursday is the implementation of Central Jakarta District Court Decision No. 208/Pdt.G/2025/PN.Jkt.Pst and Central Jakarta District Court Decision No. 1/Pdt.Eks/2026/PN.Jkt.Pst regarding the land and buildings of the former Sultan Hotel located in the HPL area. No. 4/Gelora, a state asset under the Ministry of State Secretariat cq PPKGBK.

The land was acquired and compensated by the government from 1959 to 1962 for the 4th Asian Games, and the government reportedly never sold, relinquished, or transferred rights to the land to PT Indobuildco.

PT Indobuildco once held a Building Permit (HGB) on state-owned land with a landholding permit (HPL), but this HGB was not a freehold title and its term had expired.

The execution of the land was led by the court clerk/bailiff, with support from the PPKGBK (Citizens’ Coordination Committee), government officials, legal counsel, and security forces.

The situation at the site was tense but remained calm due to demonstrations opposing the execution of the former Sultan Hotel by parties representing employees and the indigenous people.

Police and security personnel at the GBK area were seen maintaining vigil to ensure the situation remained under control. [antaranews]
