INDONESIA RANKED SECOND IN GLOBAL MUSLIM TRAVEL INDEX 2026

MASTERCARD-CrescentRating’s Global Muslim Travel Index (GMTI) 2026 announced that Indonesia is ranked 2nd as a Muslim-friendly country for tourists.

“Indonesia has successfully risen from 5th place last year to 2nd place this year. We are optimistic about achieving our position as the highest-ranking Muslim travel destination globally next year,” said Secretary of the Ministry of Tourism, Bayu Aji, at the 2026 GMTI awards ceremony, which was attended online in Jakarta on Thursday (06/18), 2026.

Indonesia’s position this year rose three places from 5th place the previous year. This ranking places Indonesia just below Malaysia, alongside Saudi Arabia and Turkey.

Following the rankings are Qatar, the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Iran, Kuwait, Oman, and Singapore.

“I would also like to thank our team for their incredible effort and dedication,” added Bayu Aji.

According to Fazal Bahardeen, Founder & CEO of CrescentRating HalalTrip, Indonesia is a country that continues to develop as a leading multicultural destination, offering rich spiritual experiences and stunning natural beauty to Muslim travelers.

With strong stakeholder initiatives and community support, this destination has made significant efforts to enhance its Halal tourism sector through large, sophisticated events, such as Halal exhibitions.

Indonesia combines faith-based needs with attractive recreational offerings. Halal-certified food also provides peace of mind for travelers while traveling, along with clean prayer facilities at airports, shopping malls, and public spaces.

The organizers also assessed that Indonesia consistently ensures a very safe, comfortable, and welcoming experience for all Muslim visitors.

On this occasion, West Java also received the “Most Promoting Muslim-Friendly Region of the Year” award for this year. [antaranews]
