SWISS-German University (SGU) and Bidakara Hospitality have launched the Event Management Concentration Program. This collaboration of new program is a response to the increasing need for professional human resources in the event, Meeting, Incentive, Convention, and Exhibition (MICE) industry, which continues to grow in Indonesia and globally.
According to Swiss German University Rector, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Dipl.-Ing. Samuel P. Kusumocahyo, this collaboration demonstrates SGU’s commitment to providing a learning model that emphasizes not only theory but also practical experience tailored to industry needs.
“At Swiss German University, we believe that the best learning experiences arise from close collaboration between academia and industry. The Event Management Concentration Program is designed to provide students with practical learning experiences, strengthen their professional competencies, and build their readiness to contribute to the events, hospitality, and MICE industries from day one,” he said at the Bidakara Hotel, Jakarta, Tuesday (07/21), 2026.
He explained that through this program, students will undergo practical lectures at the Bidakara Hotel, attend lectures in an industrial environment, undertake internships integrated into the learning process, and be directly involved in various professional projects as part of the curriculum.
Meanwhile, Bidakara Hospitality General Manager Wisnu Reza stated that the partnership is a long-term investment in preparing human resources capable of meeting the needs of the events and hospitality industry.
“Through this partnership with Swiss German University, we want to provide a learning experience aligned with industry needs, so that students not only understand theory but also gain practical experience, a professional network, and are prepared to face the world of work,” he affirmed.
He emphasized that the collaboration with SGU is designed to bridge the gap between education and industry needs. Students not only receive academic learning on campus but also gain hands-on practical experience through various activities held within the Bidakara environment.
Wisnu believes this industry-based educational model will produce graduates who are better prepared to enter the workforce. Students can be involved in organizing various events, from conferences and exhibitions to weddings and corporate events.
He also added that the demand for event managers continues to increase with the growth of the MICE and entertainment industry in Indonesia. Creativity, managerial skills, an understanding of global trends, and an entrepreneurial spirit are key competencies that graduates must possess.
“Through the launch of this Event Management Concentration, we hope to produce a new generation of professionals capable of meeting the needs of the national events industry while strengthening Indonesia’s competitiveness as a MICE destination and hosting international-level events,” Wisnu concluded.
The program launch ceremony began with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), followed by the presence of several speakers from government, academics, and industry practitioners. Among them were Acting. The Deputy for Event Organizer Development at the Ministry of Tourism, Vinsensius Jemadu; Managing Director of PT. Weggis Hospitality Academy, Moehamad Suryadharma; Senior Vice President of Human Capital, Injourney Hospitality, Joko Utomo; and Chairman of ASPERAPI, Hosea Andreas Runkat.
In a talk show session titled “Beyond the Stage: Exploring Various Career Opportunities in the Event Industry,” the speakers highlighted the enormous potential of the events industry as well as the challenges faced in preparing a competent workforce.
According to Vinsensius, the events industry has become a strategic sector that has a broad economic impact through job creation, increased tourist visits, and strengthening the creative economy and MSMEs.
“The current trend in the global events industry is toward organizing more personalized, segmented, experience-based events, and implementing sustainability principles, or green events. Furthermore, digitalization is also a crucial factor changing the way organizers design, market, and manage events,” he concluded.
He concluded that the ability to adapt to technology, understand market needs, and create memorable experiences for attendees is crucial. [traveltext.id]
