BI: QRIS USED BY 65.77 MILLION USERS AND ACCEPTED BY 44.86 MILLION MERCHANTS

BANK Indonesia (BI) reports that as of June 2026, QRIS has been used by 65.77 million users and accepted by 44.86 million merchants, 96.68% of which are Micro Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs).

BI views the expansion of QRIS not only as a means to facilitate transactions but also as a way to further integrate MSMEs into the digital economic and financial ecosystem.

“QRIS is no longer merely a fast, easy, affordable, secure, and reliable digital payment tool; it has become a primary gateway—an entry point—for MSMEs into the digital financial ecosystem,” said BI Deputy Governor Filianingsih Hendarta in Jakarta on Friday (08/21), 2026.

Digital transformation is seen as increasingly crucial for boosting productivity, expanding market reach, and helping MSMEs scale up amidst the rapid growth of the digital economy.

To this end, BI continues to encourage MSMEs to go digital through three key strategies: e-farming (utilizing digital farming to enhance productivity and efficiency), e-commerce (onboarding MSMEs to expand access to digital markets), and e-financing (using the Financial Information Recording Application System, or SIAPIK, to strengthen financial record-keeping and access to financing).

Filianingsih emphasized the importance of strengthening the digital innovation ecosystem to drive the transformation and competitiveness of MSMEs.

BI continues to bolster these efforts, notably through the development of the Indonesian Digital Innovation Center (PIDI). PIDI connects talent, innovators, industry players, the government, and strategic partners to generate relevant digital solutions applicable to the real sector, including MSMEs.

PIDI represents a synergy between BI, the Financial Services Authority (OJK), and strategic partners aimed at accelerating innovation and the development of national digital talent.

For MSMEs, PIDI serves as a platform for creating applied digital solutions that are easy to adopt and widely replicable, thereby enhancing productivity and efficiency while expanding access to markets and financing. “With empowered talent, implementable innovations, and a mutually reinforcing ecosystem, we are optimistic that Indonesian MSMEs will continue to transform, grow, and advance to the next level, thereby supporting increasingly inclusive and sustainable economic growth,” said Filianingsih.

On Friday (August 21), Bank Indonesia (BI) hosted an Innovation Talk titled “Akselerasi Transformasi Digital UMKM: Integrasi Inovasi Digital Menuju UMKM Naik Level” or “Accelerating MSME Digital Transformation: Integrating Digital Innovation to Elevate MSMEs,” as part of the Karya Kreatif Indonesia (KKI) 2026 series of events.

The Innovation Talk featured speakers including Fitria Irmi Triswati from BI’s Payment System Policy Department; young innovators and PIDI finalists Irpan Rambe and Fahrul Hadi Kusuma; and Pipit Candra, founder of Bernard Tani—a horticultural MSME supported by BI.

The speakers shared their perspectives and experiences regarding the use of digital innovation to improve business performance, expand market reach, unlock access to financing, and help MSMEs advance to the next level.

The discussion also emphasized the importance of the banking industry utilizing MSME digital data, as well as the need to strengthen digital record-keeping among MSMEs to enhance efficiency, governance, and access to financing.

BI stated that it would continue to strengthen synergy with all stakeholders to accelerate the digital transformation of MSMEs.

Driven by the spirit of *Beudaya Meusare-Sare*—or “empowerment through collaboration”—digital transformation is expected to foster MSMEs that are increasingly adaptive, innovative, and competitive, enabling them to grow, advance, and serve as a future driver of Indonesia’s economic growth.
