PT TRANSNUSA Aviation Mandiri (Transnusa) officially launched its inaugural flights for the Jakarta (CGK)–Lampung (TKG) and Lampung (TKG)–Kuala Lumpur (KUL) routes on Monday (08/24), 2026.
Transnusa Group CEO Datuk Bernard Francis stated that the opening of these two routes expands connectivity from Radin Inten II International Airport while simultaneously restoring regular international flight services from Lampung.
“The introduction of direct service to Kuala Lumpur opens up access that previously required Lampung residents to travel via other cities—whether for tourism, business, visiting family, medical needs, or Umrah pilgrimages,” he said in an official statement released on Wednesday (08/26), 2026.
This international route is also seen as part of the momentum to re-establish Radin Inten II as a gateway for international air travel.
According to Datuk Bernard, the launch of this route is based not only on tourism potential but also on the large population and the economic and social ties between Lampung and Malaysia. Lampung has a population of approximately 9.5 million and holds significant potential for both business and leisure travel.
“The market extends beyond tourism. It encompasses business, government and community ties, manpower supply for jobs in Malaysia, the halal business sector, and even medical tourism. We also observe existing medical travel from Lampung to Singapore, Bangkok, and Kuala Lumpur,” Datuk Bernard noted.
He described the launch of daily Lampung–Kuala Lumpur flights as a new chapter for Lampung’s international connectivity. Previously, international flights from Radin Inten II had not been a consistent part of the travel options available to the public.
He added that the demand for Umrah travel is another area of potential supported by this connectivity. Kuala Lumpur boasts an extensive international flight network and can serve as a transit point for Lampung residents continuing their journeys to the Middle East. On the domestic front, the Jakarta–Lampung flight complements the new connectivity Transnusa has established via Radin Inten II Airport. With a frequency of up to three flights daily and a travel time of approximately 45–60 minutes, this route offers a quick travel alternative between Lampung and Jakarta.
Jakarta also plays a broader role within Transnusa’s network. Travelers from Lampung can use Jakarta as a connecting point to reach various domestic destinations served by Transnusa—such as Yogyakarta, Denpasar, Lombok, and Singkawang—as well as international destinations like Singapore, Guangzhou, and Bangkok.
To support travel on these routes, Transnusa is offering special fares: Jakarta–Lampung tickets start at IDR699,000; Lampung–Kuala Lumpur starts at IDR1,599,000; and Kuala Lumpur–Lampung starts at MYR399.
Transnusa operates the 95-seat COMAC C909 aircraft on these new routes. This fleet choice was tailored to the specific characteristics of the routes and projected initial demand.
According to Datuk Bernard, the C909 is a regional jet well-suited for relatively short-haul flights like Jakarta–Lampung. Using an aircraft with appropriate capacity also provides Transnusa with flexibility to develop new routes while monitoring market demand trends.
“For new routes like this, starting with a load factor of around 50% is a good beginning. We hope to see that rise above 70% within three to six months,” he added.
He noted that the company views route development as a process that evolves alongside demand growth. Consequently, the company will continuously evaluate the performance of both the Lampung–Kuala Lumpur and Jakarta–Lampung routes, including opportunities to increase flight frequency and deploy larger-capacity aircraft.
