PT ANGKASA Pura Indonesia (InJourney Airports) announced that flight operations at Soekarno-Hatta (Tangerang), Halim Perdanakusuma (Jakarta), and Husein Sastranegara (Bandung) airports have resumed following temporary closures caused by the spread of volcanic ash from the eruption of Mount Anak Krakatau (GAK).
According to Arie Ahsanurrohim, Corporate Secretary Group Head at InJourney Airports, stated in a release received in Tangerang on Tuesday that the resumption of services at the three airports follows a Notice to Air Missions (NOTAM) issued by AirNav Indonesia, declaring “resumed operations” status starting at 00:30 WIB (Western Indonesia Time).
“The airside and landside facilities at all three airports are ready to handle flights again. All airport operations and service personnel are also confirmed ready,” he said.
He explained that, based on the current situation, Soekarno-Hatta International Airport resumed operations at 00:30 WIB on September 8, 2026; Halim Perdanakusuma Airport resumed at 00:40 WIB; and Husein Sastranegara Airport resumed at 00:42 WIB.
Procedures for reopening airport operations have been carried out, including the cleaning of volcanic ash from all airside areas—specifically the apron, taxiway, and runway.
“Additionally, runway friction tests were conducted, showing that the facility meets the standards and requirements for flight operations,” he affirmed.
Meanwhile, Soekarno-Hatta Airport General Manager Heru Karyadi added that the reopening of operations at Soekarno-Hatta Airport is being conducted in stages, prioritizing safety. This includes the implementation of Air Traffic Flow Management (ATFM) as part of the strategy to manage air traffic flow during the initial recovery phase.
“During the initial recovery phase, flight operations are being managed in a gradual and measured manner through the implementation of ATFM. This regulation is necessary to ensure that departure and arrival flows resume safely and orderly, while also allowing for the gradual restoration of the airport’s operational capacity,” he explained.
He stated that efforts to manage flight flows during the initial recovery phase take into account on-the-ground operational conditions, including the need to expedite the departure of previously affected flights and to gradually restore apron capacity.
Soekarno-Hatta Airport has also coordinated with all public transport operators to ensure the availability of fleets to support travel to and from the airport.
“Prospective passengers are advised to continuously monitor and verify their flight status and schedules through their respective airlines’ official channels before heading to the airport, given the adjustments to flight schedules,” he concluded. [antaranews]
