FROM DIPLOMAT, ARCHITECT, LECTURER TO A PH.D AND FINALLY FORMING A BAND

IN an era where people fight in comment sections and family gatherings only happen via WA stickers, the Big Family of De Santos is doing something totally anti-mainstream: gathering not for an arisan (“a social lottery club”) but for a concert!

On Sunday, September 20, 2026, at Jogya Tea House, they will hold a grand celebration titled “Persembahan Karya De Santos dan Para Sahabat” (“A Tribute of Works by De Santos and Friends). The theme is deep: “A Message for the Next Generation”. But relax, it’s not a chain message from WhatsApp.

This family is not playing around. Its members include former officials from the Ministry of Home Affairs, Ministry of Health, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Local Government, and Lecturer.

According to family spokesperson Ir. R. Haryo Sasongko, M.Sc., this event is not just about nostalgia. It’s their way of continuing the legacy of their late parents, Mr. and Mrs. Santoso Poedjosoebroto, with three pillars: love for Yogya, love for Indonesia, and love for the world as global citizens. A complete package.

Their self-composed songs from the 70s will be performed again. The titles alone are already poetic: “The Wisdom of Independence” Resilient”, ”Full of Hope”,  to “Don’t Lose Your Hope” — perfect for those who are having a thesis breakdown.

Not just music, there will also be a painting and caricature exhibition, plus a cultural discussion with the University of Gadjah Mada: Professors: Prof. Dr. Laksono Trisnantoro, Prof. Laretna Adishakti, Prof. Dr. Paripurna P. Sugarda, and the Editor-in-Chief of “Kedaulatan Rakyat” Daily, Dr. Octo Lampito.

There will even be a special sharing session on music copyright with legendary musician Candra Darusman. The event will be hybrid and the link will be shared soon. So don’t just binge-watch K-dramas. Let’s join via live streaming. (Gabriel Francis)
