THE INDONESIAN Ministry of Tourism appreciates STARLUX Airlines for officially opening direct flights on the Taipei–Denpasar route starting October 1 2026.
According to the Deputy for Marketing at the Ministry of Tourism, Ni Made Ayu Marthini, said the opening of this route is expected to further strengthen connectivity as well as increase tourist visits from Taiwan to Indonesia.
“Connectivity is the key to expanding accessibility and increasing the competitiveness of leading destinations in the eyes of the world, especially since direct flights from Taiwan to Bali have been eagerly awaited,” said Made in her statement, Thursday (10/01), 2026.
STARLUX Airlines’ inaugural flight took place on Thursday, October 1 2026. The 188-seat aircraft departed from Taipei at 10.10 local time and arrived in Denpasar at 15.40 WITA.
The passengers were released from Taoyuan International Airport, Taipei, by representatives of the Taipei Indonesian Trade and Economic Office (KDEI). Upon arrival at I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport, Denpasar, passengers received a warm welcome and typical Wonderful Indonesia souvenirs.
“The opening of the STARLUX Airlines flight route to Denpasar is also a response to the positive trend of tourist visits from Taiwan to Indonesia. From January to July 2026, the number of visits by Taiwanese tourists to Indonesia reached 130,421 visits. This figure increased by 7.74 percent compared to the same period in 2025, which recorded 121,049 visits,” she noted.
The flight to Denpasar also expands STARLUX Airlines services in Indonesia after the airline first opened flights on the Taipei–Jakarta route in 2024.
Made explained that the expansion of air connectivity opens up opportunities to reach more Taiwanese tourists while introducing the diversity of Indonesian tourism experiences.
“The expansion of STARLUX Airlines flights to Bali is expected to attract more Taiwanese tourists and other foreign tourists to Indonesia in a sustainable manner. Taiwan is one potential market that is showing significant growth, with positive interest in natural tourism and special interests such as wellness, marine and gastronomy,” Made affirmed.
STARLUX Airlines flight services for the Taipei–Denpasar roundtrip (PP) route will operate five times a week, namely every Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday and Sunday.
For the Taipei–Denpasar route with flight number JX765, the plane departs from Taipei at 10.10 and arrives in Denpasar at 15.40. Meanwhile, the Denpasar–Taipei flight with flight number JX766 departs from Denpasar at 17.20 and arrives in Taipei at 22.50 local time.
According to her, increasing international flight connectivity is not only important to increase the flow of tourist visits, but is also expected to have a wider economic impact on destinations and communities.
“The presence of this new flight route is expected to strengthen the tourism ecosystem, open up investment opportunities in the tourism sector, and provide direct economic benefits for local communities in Bali,” she added.
Meanwhile the Head of IETO Taipei, Arif Sulistiyo, said a similar thing. He assessed that the presence of this route not only strengthens Bali’s position as a strategic entry point for Taiwanese tourists to explore other destinations in Indonesia, but also has the potential to create a multiplier effect for the tourism and creative economy sectors, from hotels to local MSMEs.
According to Arif, direct connectivity also opens up wider space to introduce Indonesia’s riches to the Taiwanese people, not only through natural attractions, but also culture, culinary, creativity and diversity of Indonesian society.
“We hope that the presence of STARLUX on the Taipei-Bali route can be the beginning of closer cooperation in the aviation and tourism sectors. At the same time, we hope that more and more Taiwanese people will have the opportunity to get to know Indonesia more widely, not only about its natural beauty, but also its culture, culinary, creativity and diversity of society,” concluded Arif.
