YOGYAKARTA Special Region (DIY) Tourism Office targets one million foreign tourists visiting four regencies and one city in the province during 2020.
According to the Head of DIY Tourism Office, Singgih Raharjo in Bantul Regency, said we have a target of 500 thousand foreign tourists this year, and in 2020 the target is one million foreign tourists, directly doubling.
“The target of one million foreign tourists in 2020 does not refer to the DIY Regional Medium-Term Development Plan, but the challenge of the former minister of tourism, Arief Yahya, because in DIY from now on it already has a new international airport beside the airport. the old one,” he said.
He explained, so we already have a new airport capital, and the old airport is still operational, so a small province that has two airports is Yogyakarta, if it is targeted at one million foreign tourists by 2020 I am ready, but the terms and conditions apply.
He explianed, the terms and conditions were the addition of direct flight routes or direct flights by airplane to Yogyakarta airport from abroad, because it was the main means of transportation for tourists coming directly from various parts of the world.
“The main key for tourists coming from the world is that it is possible and most use airplanes, so they will count if they are still in transit because it certainly requires a lot of time and money, so that if it can be added with direct flight we are optimistic that one million foreign tourists can be achieved,” Singgih Raharjo said.
He concluded, even within the scope of ASIA, for example if there were additional direct flights from Bangkok, Thailand, to Yogyakarta, world tourists would automatically plan to visit Yogyakarta, especially in this city that is increasingly known to have international-class tourist destinations.
“So, when tourists arrive in Bangkok, why not go to Yogyakarta, of course tourism promotion must be strong. So I think we can achieve one million tourists as long as it is accompanied by the addition of direct flight slots which, God willing, from April 2020 will have increased,” he said.
He also said, while there were only two direct flights to Yogyakarta from Malaysia and Singapore, so his hopes could soon increase from Middle Eastern countries from ASEAN and from Australia. That is part of how to strive for tourists to have very fast, very cheap accessibility. [antaranews/photo special]
