PT Angkasa Pura II (AP II) is optimistic that the growth in passenger numbers could reach 5 percent by 2020. The projection is better than in 2019 which is predicted to drop 18.85 percent.
Based on company data, the prognosis of the number of passengers throughout 2019 reached 90.46 million people, while the realization in 2018 would be able to penetrate 112.6 million people. The difference in both decreases reached 18.85 percent.
According to Managing Director of Angkasa Pura II Muhammad Awaluddin said the performance throughout 2019 was a picture of new normal conditions, because it created a balance point in the community. Our business plan is targeting [passenger] traffic growth to reach 4.5-5 percent in 2020.
“The AP II party still believes air transportation remains to be excellent for the domestic community that prioritizes speed. Moreover, Indonesia is an archipelago with a high level of inter-island movement activities,” he said.
Then, he hopes economic conditions can improve next year, thereby encouraging community mobility and increasing purchasing power.
On the other hand, AP II also pushed the tourism sector into a new economic focus to increase passenger and airplane movements. Moreover, the government is keen to develop five super priority destinations.
Awaluddin said the company’s performance could also improve with the addition of four new airports, which were assigned by the government through the cooperation scheme to utilize state-owned goods.
The four airports are TJilik Riwut Airport (Palangkaraya), Radin Inten II Airport (Lampung), HAS Hanandjoeddin Airport (Belitung), and Fatmawati Soekarno Airport (Bengkulu).
Nevertheless, it also considers a number of infrastructure that will be built and affect the aviation sector. For example, the Trans Sumatra Toll Road that will affect flights from Jakarta-Lampung, Jakarta-Palembang, Padang-Pekanbaru, or Medan-Pekanbaru. [antaranews/special photo]
