THE Italian sports car company, Maserati built the prototype Maserati MC20 dedicated to Sir Stirling Moss, a former British rider who died on April 12, 2020 at the age of 90.
The sprots car design was taken from the Maserati Eldorado, a single-seat car driven by Stirling Moss on its debut at Monza 1958 in the “Trofeo dei due Mondi” event.
In the Maserati official website said, the company chose May 13 to commemorate the victory of the legend, the Monaco F1 Grand Prix on May 13, 1956. At that time he was driving a Maserati 250F.
Moss, who recorded 16 wins in 66 starts in Formula 1 Grand Prix racing, is one of the most successful drivers ever to win the world title. He entered the whisker of the crown more than once, ending in second place on four occasions, and third in three championships. For that reason, he is known as “king without a crown”.
In the 1956 season and several races in 1957, Moss drove his “favorite” Maserati 250F, and was only defeated by Juan Manuel Fangio.
Through the MC20 prototype with “signature” Stirling Moss, Maserati wants to commemorate one of the best names in the history of world motor sport.
Stirling Moss also has a list of Maserati cars that have been driven by British drivers including Tipo 60 Birdcage, Tipo 61 and 300 S.
The choice of the MC20 prototype for Stirling is not a coincidence. Through this model, Maserati wants to reiterate his desire to support the racing event, after they won the 2010 world championship through MC12.
