JAKARTA’S RESTAURANTS & CAFES PREPARATIONS IN WELCOMING NEW NORMAL

RESTAURANT and cafe business in the capital have been preparing for a new normal phase by implementing a health protocol in which the DKI Jakarta provincial government set June as the beginning of the transition period.

Economic activity can be carried out again in a transitional period, but must comply with established limits. Restaurants can be opened on June 8, 2020 with a record number of guests at most only half of capacity. The plan to limit the number of guests has been considered by the managers of restaurants and cafes in Jakarta.

One of them is Ilham Dwi, owner of Qala Coffee & Herbs in Jakarta and Bogor, will reduce the number of seats in the cafe.

“We will reduce the number of seats, which had been a table for four people, so for two people, we will add 30 guests in the cafeteria in Jakarta,” he said.

He added, at the end of February 2020, I opened a new outlet in Bogor, but was forced to close temporarily due to the corona virus pandemic. Only outlets in Jakarta continue to operate during the Large-Scale Social Restrictions for online and take-away bookings.

“Store sales dropped by 80% in April, but gradually increased during Ramadan until early June. Apart from online sales, innovations to make one liter bottles, like many other coffee shops in Jakarta, help sales especially during Ramadan,” he noted.

He explained, the 1 liter packaging during Ramadan was quite a boom. Next week, Ilham plans to reopen outlets in Bogor. Plans open June 8.

Meanwhile, the Kovi Kopi shop in Jakarta will post a health protocol announcement in its place as a socialization to guests who come when it will be reopened. In addition to requiring the use of masks, other hygiene products such as hand sanitizers, tissues and hand soap will also be provided.

“We will adjust the distance to sit using the solation, also reduce the benches and tables,” said Tiara Malinda from Kovi Kopi.

During large-scale social restrictions, she tried to attract buyers with new product innovations to collaboration with other brands. Although guests can no longer hang out during the area restrictions, communication remains intense through social media that uploads educational content about limiting distances to games to giving out prizes.
