THE Central Statistics Agency (BPS) noted that foreign tourist visits to Indonesia rose 0.95% in July 2020 to 159,760 visits from 158,256 visits in June 2020.
According to the Head of BPS Suhariyanto when holding a press conference that was broadcast virtually in Jakarta, said the number of foreign tourists visiting Indonesia was still very limited due to the large-scale social restrictions (PSBB) and many countries with travel restrictions.
Suhariyanto conveyed that the highest increase occurred at Soekarno-Hatta Airport, Banten, with 3,119 visits and Sam Ratulangi Airport, Manado, with 699 visits.
“When compared with the visit in June 2020, the number of foreign tourists visiting Indonesia through air entrances in July 2020 increased by 176.71%. The highest percentage increase occurred at Soekarno-Hatta Airport, Banten, amounting to 243.12%, followed by Sam Ratulangi Airport, North Sulawesi with 159.55%, and Ngurah Rai Airport, Bali with 60.00%,” he said.
He added, meanwhile, Adisucipto Airport, Yogyakarta Special Region; Sultan Syarif Kasim II Airport, Riau; and Sultan Badarudin II Airport, South Sumatra experienced a decrease of 100%.
“Cumulatively, the number of foreign tourist visits to Indonesia for the January-July 2020 period reached 3.25 million visits or decreased by 64.64% compared to the number of foreign tourists visiting in the same period the previous year, which totaled 9.18 million visits,” Suhariyanto noted.
He explained that the number of foreign tourists visiting consisted of 1.61 million foreign tourists visiting through air entrances, 795.17 thousand sea entrances, and 845.88 thousand land entrances. [antaranews/photo special]
