IRFAN: GARUDA DID NOT WANT TO LOSE, 12 UNITS OF CRJ-1000 WERE RETURNED

PT GARUDA Indonesia Tbk. took the early termination step to return the 12 Bombardier CRJ-1000 units to the operating lease from the Nordic Aviation Capital (NAC) lessor, which was due in 2027.

According to the President Director of Garuda Indonesia, Irfan Setiaputra, said that I unilaterally terminated the contract for the 12 aircraft types starting February 2020. Currently, the status of the aircraft is grounded and cannot be used since February 1, 2021.

“Starting February, we decided to unilaterally terminate the CRJ-1000 contract with NAC. The status [the plane] is in Cengkareng and grounded, it cannot be used starting February,” he said, Wednesday (10/2)

Irfan continued, the step to unilaterally terminate the contract was also carried out after negotiations with producers did not reach an agreement and was not responded well by the producers. The provisions in the lease contract state that if Garuda Indonesia terminates before the due date, it must pay the entire remaining term of the contract including the monthly rental rate.

“The airline Garuda Indonesia asked for negotiations at a much lower rate. This tariff negotiation, he continued, did not meet any bright spots and producer demand was deemed unreasonable because it had actually increased the tariff. Not only that, this aircraft after being used did not match the market needs in Indonesia. Eventhough from year to year always suffered losses,” he noted.

He explained that we have been negotiating for a long time regarding the early termination of the CRJ-1000 which should have stopped. This aircraft seems to have been used not in accordance with the needs of the market in Indonesia. Year after year incur losses. Especially with this pandemic, it’s inefficient. We are taking this early termination step, especially the negotiations repeatedly getting negative feedback. [bisnis.com/photo special]
