PT Angkasa Pura I seeks to complete four airport development projects in the Eastern Indonesia region this year to increase the movement of passenger transport and air logistics.
According to the Managing Director of Angkasa Pura I, Faik Fahmi, the four development projects are the Sultan Hasanuddin Airport Development Project in Makassar, Juanda Airport in Surabaya, Lombok Praya Airport, and Sam Ratulangi Airport in Manado.
“The development of these four airports is strategic in nature to encourage air connectivity and increase the movement capacity of air transport and logistics, especially in the central and eastern regions of Indonesia. Until early March 2021, the progress of the development of Sultan Hasanuddin Makassar Airport has reached 62.28% and is targeted to be completed in May 2021,” he said.
He explained that airport development includes terminal expansion which reaches 166,815 square meters so that it can accommodate 15 million passengers per year from the existing terminal area of 51,815 square meters with a capacity of 7 million passengers per year. In addition, the apron was also expanded to 385,346 square meters (53 parking stands capacity) from the existing area of only 185,500 square meters (42 parking stands capacity).
“Meanwhile, the progress of the development of Juanda Airport in Surabaya until early March 2021 has reached 93%. The development of Juanda Airport in Surabaya includes the expansion of Terminal 1 along with improvements to its interior and supporting facilities, 10-28 runway overlay, reconstruction of Terminal 2 B apron, and expansion of the international cargo terminal,” Faik Fahmi noted.
He added that the expansion of Terminal 1 to 91,700 square meters from 62,700 square meters will increase the capacity of Terminal 1 to 13 million passengers per year from the current 7 million per year. The current development progress of Lombok Praya Airport has reached 96%.
This development is carried out to support the development of the Mandalika special economic area (KEK) which is the location for the 2021 MotoGP. The development carried out is the extension of the runway (runway) from 2,750 meters to 3,300 meters, and expansion of the terminal to 40 thousand square meters which can accommodate 7 million. passengers per year or 2 times the previous capacity.
Meanwhile, the progress of the development of Manado’s Sam Ratulangi Airport has currently reached 80%. This airport development expands the passenger terminal to 57,296 square meters from 26,481 square meters. The expansion of this terminal has made Sam Ratulangi Airport in Manado able to accommodate up to 5.7 million passengers per year compared to previously only 2.6 million per year.
Faik emphasized that the development of airports carried out also aims to support the development of priority tourist destinations and the government’s strategic agenda, especially in the 2021 MotoGP event in Mandalika.
