PT Angkasa Pura I together with Incheon International Airport Corporation (IIAC) and PT Wijaya Karya Tbk. (WIKA) will soon develop Hang Nadim Airport at the beginning of next year.
The development plan will be realized after the AP I Consortium is officially announced as winning the tender for the Government Cooperation with the Airport Business Entity (PPP). The tender announcement was made by the Batam Zone Concession Agency (BP Batam) on 19 March.
According to API Managing Director Faik Fahmi, the construction of the new Hang Nadim Airport passenger terminal is carried out to meet the projected passenger growth of up to 5 million passengers per year in the first 4 years. The additional passenger terminal capacity, he said, will start construction according to projections in 2022 or maybe it could be faster based on the increase in the number of passengers.
“Apart from the construction of a new terminal, the Angkasa Pura I Consortium will also renovate the old passenger terminal with a capacity of 3.5 million per year, which will begin in late 2021 or early 2022,” he said, Monday (22/3).
He explained, this old passenger terminal has been operating for 26 years starting January 1, 1995 as the opening of general operations. AP I’s participation in airport management selection is the second time under the PPP scheme.
Previously, AP I also participated in the Airport PPP selection in Labuan Bajo. In the Batam Hang Nadim Airport Selection Consortium, AP I holds 51% ownership, IIAC 30% and WIKA 19%. Hang Nadim Airport will be developed to become a wider aviation destination hub and logistics and cargo hub in western Indonesia.
“The location of Hang Nadim Airport in Batam, which is quite strategic in the Southeast Asia region and adjacent to a cargo port and industrial area, makes this airport suitable as a logistics center,” he concluded. [antaranews]
