INDONESIA’S Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy encourages tourism villages in Indonesia to present superior, authentic products in accordance with the potential of their respective regions.
According to the Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy, Sandiaga Uno, when attending a webinar entitled Strengthening the Indonesian Economy through Villages, online in Jakarta, Sunday (25/4) said this is what we want to encourage, what superior products in a village can be. we develop. Whether from natural, cultural, and artificial potential or authentic creative work.
“For example, Penglipuran Tourism Village in Bali, the main focus is the village customs which are very extraordinary, known as the cleanest village. From the existing potential, it can provide added value, so that tourists get a satisfying travel experience,” Sandiaga said.
He explained that the added value meant was something that could be seen (to see), something that could be done (to do), something that could be learned (to learn), and something that could be bought (to buy). With this added value, superior products in tourist villages will be transformed into tourist products that can be offered to tourists.
“The development of a tourism village is a step taken by Tourism Ministry in fulfilling regional development priority indicators in the 2020-2024 National Medium Term Development Plan (RPJMN). The Ministry of Tourism & Creative Economy targets 244 certified tourist villages to become independent tourism villages by 2024,” he stated.
We want to create a productive and independent village, he continued, our task is to empower 244 villages. This tourist village must be an independent village from the pilot village. Therefore, we all go out, so that the tourism sector and the creative economy can raise our economic growth and improve the welfare of society.
“In 2020, the Ministry of Tourism has facilitated the certification of sustainable tourism villages in 16 tourist villages, while in 2021 the Ministry of Tourism will increase that number to 52 tourist villages. In addition, in managing a pilot tourism village towards an independent tourism village, superior human resources are needed,” Sandiaga noted.
He added, therefore, mapping of potential human resource competencies in tourism villages needs to be done. For example, the potential for human resource competence in the tourism sector can be seen from the ability to manage a homestay or become a tour guide. Meanwhile, in the ecograph sector, HR competencies can be mapped in managing culinary or becoming crafts and fashion craftsmen.
“In 2021 Human Resources will be the focus of Tourism Ministry. We have conducted human resource competency mapping in 67 tourist villages, but this number is still lacking, and we will continue to improve it with collaboration. There are already 14 associations or communities, and 20 universities that are collaborating with the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy,” Sandiaga explained.
After conducting the human resource mapping, the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy facilitated competency-based training for Human Resources in tourist villages through up skilling and re-skilling tailored to the training needs in the village. In addition to creating superior human resources, the components needed in the progress of a tourist village include attractions, amenities, accessibility, and activities in the tourist village.
“If all components are met, the urbanisation of people from rural areas to cities is expected to decrease, because many economic activities are created. In addition, tourism villages can be an effort to preserve and empower the potential of local culture and local wisdom values that exist in the community” he concluded.
For the record, in 2019, the tourism sector contributed the second largest foreign exchange value in Indonesia after the oil and gas sector, amounting to US$16.9 billion. Meanwhile, the creative economy sector contributed IDR1.1 trillion to Indonesia’s GDP. For this reason, the development of tourist villages is expected to be able to boost national economic growth.
