DEPARTING from the success of the first Pacific Exposition, the Government of Indonesia will again hold the 2nd Pacific Exposition on 27-30 October 2021. As in 2019, all countries and regions in the Pacific region are expected to participate.
The second Pacific Exposition is faced with unique conditions because the world is still struggling with the COVID-19 pandemic and its economic impact. With this background, the theme of this year’s Pacific Exposition is ‘It’s Pacific Time’. The theme reflects optimism as the region has managed to overcome the pandemic.
Indonesia itself is arguably getting ready to start an early economic recovery and become an engine of economic growth. Given the fact that the border is still closed, the 2021 Pacific Exposition Exhibition will consist of three virtual programs and offline events for the public in New Zealand.
One of the main virtual programs is a forum that brings together decision makers, business leaders, and experts to share their experiences and views on issues regarding economic development in the Pacific region in the post-COVID era.
Indonesia’s breakthrough, at the 2019 Pacific Exposition event which was held on 11-14 July 2019 in Auckland, New Zealand, was a series of activities that also aimed to accelerate regional cooperation in the fields of economy, tourism and culture. This forum is a collaboration with Australia and New Zealand and will be attended by all 20 countries and territories in the South Pacific.
At the Pacific Tourism Forum, hundreds of business people, including those in infrastructure, communications and tour operators, also gathered to discuss the network of cooperation to form One Pacific Destination in the Pacific region. Meanwhile, at the Pacific Cultural Forum, Indonesia invites Pacific countries and territories to work together in preserving cultural heritage and promoting a Pacific identity that is not yet known globally.
Famous Indonesian dancers and musicians at that time such as the late Glen Fredly, Ivan Nestorman, and the Papua Originals music group along with well-known artists from the Pacific region such as Switzerland (Tonga), Mr. Cowboy/Sam Chookon (Samoa), Ellaphon (New Zealand) and Erakah (Fiji) will also showcase their talents at the Sound of the Pacific concert, which will be attended by thousands of visitors from Pacific countries and territories.
