THE ICONIC airplane inspired by the comic classic “The Adventures of Tintin”, Rackham, received a number of refreshes and remains part of the Brussels Airlines fleet until 2026.
Citing information quoted from the official Tintin website, Moulinsart and Brussels Airlines agreed to extend their partnership and return the paintings on the plane to its original state.
“The Rackham plane is still one of the most photographed aircraft in the world. The image is adapted from the famous shark submarine from the book ‘Red Rackham’s Treasure’. The Airbus A320, dubbed the “Rackham”, will continue to cut through the air every day of the year in search of new adventures.”
While the image on the outside remains pretty much the same, the interior of the plane has been enhanced with more Tintin illustrations from the 12th book of “The Adventures of Tintin”.
The book “Red Rackham’s Treasure” will also be available to read on board in Dutch, French and English, allowing passengers – young and old – to dive into the adventures of Tintin and his friends.
“Red Rackham’s Treasure” (Le Trésor de Rackham le Rouge) is the 12th volume of “The Adventures of Tintin”, a comic series by Belgian cartoonist Hergé.
This story was serialized daily in Le Soir, Belgium’s leading French-language newspaper, from February to September 1943 amidst the German occupation of Belgium during World War II.
Completing the arc that began in “The Secret of the Unicorn”, the story follows young reporter Tintin and his friend Captain Haddock as they launch an expedition to the Caribbean to find the treasure of the pirate Red Rackham.
“Red Rackham’s Treasure” was a commercial success and was published in book form by Casterman a year later. The comic became one of the most important volumes in the series to mark the first appearance of the eccentric scientist Cuthbert Calculus, who would later become a core character.
The story was adapted into various formats including an animated series, radio drama on BBC 5, to the feature film “The Adventures of Tintin: The Secret of the Unicorn” (2011) directed by Steven Spielberg. [antaranews/photo special]
