IT IS NECESSARY TO TAKE SIDES WITH ORIGINAL INDONESIAN BATIK PRODUCTS

ACTING Director General of Small, Medium and Multifarious Industries of the Ministry of Industry, Reni Yanita, conveyed the need to take sides with Indonesian batik products by all levels of society in order to increase the original brand of the country and boost the welfare of the craftsmen.

“There needs to be an alignment with native Indonesian batik products, because currently there are many batik printings. This is not a genuine Indonesian batik product, meaning that there is no dyeing process using night and so on,” said Reni Yanita in Jakarta, Friday (10/1).

Reni said that as part of fashion products, batik also contributes to textile exports to various countries, although the export figures are inseparable from textile products.

Currently, the Ministry of Industry is focused on protecting and preserving batik as Indonesia’s cultural heritage, so that its motives are not recognized by other countries.

“Currently there are batik textiles, so it has the potential to destroy the craftsmen, and also those with designs,” said Reni.

For this reason, Reni appealed to regional and central officials to use original Indonesian batik in the form of written batik or at least stamped batik, considering that stamped batik also goes through a night-making process by craftsmen.

On this occasion, Reni appreciated the craftsmen who started to make batik not only as clothing, but also other increasingly innovative craft products.

This, continued Reni, can open up opportunities for a larger batik market, so that Indonesian batik becomes the host in their own country.

“Currently batik is widely used as crafts, tablecloths, displays, decorations, so it is getting more creative and innovative. I think this is good to answer market needs,” Reni finished. [antaranews/photo special]
