PT GARUDA Indonesia Tbk to continue to accelerate performance recovery measures. One of the strategies is through the restructuring of business obligations with all of its creditors. This is done to ensure that the company can continue to provide services to the community.
According to the President Director of Garuda Indonesia, Irfan Setiaputra, said the restructuring step is the most appropriate and relevant option in supporting efforts to restore Garuda Indonesia’s performance in the midst of business performance pressures faced by all aviation industry players.
“We are currently strengthening this restructuring step through the synergy of State-Owned Enterprises (SOEs), one of which is Pertamina, where at the end of 2020 we succeeded in obtaining an agreement to extend the payment period for business obligations for three years from the total outstanding recorded until the end of 2020 for Pertamina,” said Irfan in his official statement, Friday (10/29).
Garuda will strengthen the agreement through discussions on restructuring exploration with Pertamina for recorded business obligations in 2021.
Irfan is optimistic that the steps that have been successfully explored with Pertamina and various other business partners will become the fundamental foundation for the continuity of Garuda Indonesia’s business going forward. In the midst of accelerating restructuring steps with business partners, Garuda Indonesia ensures that all aspects of flight operational activities will continue as normal.
“Garuda is committed to always optimizing the standard of safe and comfortable flight services to meet the mobility needs of the community as well as cargo transportation for the national economic sector,” Irfan remarked.
Meanwhile Aviation Industry Expert, Hendra Soemanto hopes that Garuda Indonesia as a National Flight Carrier can position itself as a large airline company and must dominate the domestic and international market.
“Of course, with good faith together as well as qualified and professional management management in the commercial aviation industry from all levels of the board of directors and Garuda personnel in it, with one goal, to make Garuda Indonesia a new profit-oriented airline controlled by a capable Holding in the future,” he added.
Responding to the discourse of replacing Garuda Indonesia with Pelita Air, aviation observer Arista Atmadjati said that if Garuda Indonesia was closed by the government due to financial problems and would be replaced by Pelita Air, the opportunities and challenges would be different.
“Garuda Indonesia’s position is not easy to replace with Pelita Air because Garuda has a very large infrastructure including the number of aircraft and routes served which are not comparable to the current Pelita Air. Moreover, Pelita Air does not yet have a corporate image (branding) as good as Garuda,” he pointed out.
According to Arista, it will take years to bring in aircraft and develop international flight routes.
For this, Arista suggested Pelita Air to fill the slots for pioneer flights or feeders on a number of islands throughout Indonesia. In addition to filling pioneer flight slots, Pelita Air also opens goods/cargo transportation services and fishery commodities in Eastern Indonesia. And Pelita Air can also maximize the aircraft maintenance and maintenance business. [kontan.co.id/photo special]
