THE MINISTER of Home Affairs, Muhammad Tito Karnavian, warned all parties not to be too euphoric as all indicators of handling COVID-19 improved in order to anticipate the explosion of cases after the new year.
According to Minister Tito Karnavian, in his statement received in Jakarta, Monday (11/1) he said he did not want another explosion of COVID-19 transmission cases at the beginning of next year.
Reflecting on last new year, which was in early January 2021, an explosion of cases of COVID-19 transmission had occurred. The high mobility and the number of activities that can cause crowds during the Christmas and New Year holiday periods are considered to be the contributing factors.
For this reason, according to the Minister of Home Affairs, Tito, so that it doesn’t happen again, such incidents need to be well anticipated. We don’t want (to happen again). The president’s direction, he doesn’t want to repeat it, don’t let an explosion occur (cases of COVID-19 transmission).
“Indonesia must maintain the control of the pandemic that has been going well. As is known, based on the United States Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (USCDC), Indonesia is listed as a country with a low risk of spreading COVID-19, with a level 1 category. On their official website, they list the category’ ‘Level 1 COVID-19 Low’ for Indonesia,” he said.
He explained that we are a low-income country, not many low-income countries, for a class like Indonesia, which (has) 270 million people, can be categorized as low, that’s extraordinary. This success is the hard work of all parties that need to be maintained and improved.
“One of them is by implementing strict health protocols at all times. Therefore, the easing of community activities in line with the decline in COVID-19 cases should not be greeted with euphoria,” he said.
He added, don’t be euphoric, the easing has been done gradually, don’t go back immediately like there was no pandemic, this is what we need to be aware of and ask for support from all parties, including the community, so that we can control it without a new explosion. [antaranews/photo special]
