INDONESIAN Coordinating Minister for the Economy, Airlangga Hartarto said the Indonesia (RI) government was still reviewing Indonesia’s participation in the Vaccinated Travel Lane (VTL) travel corridor with a number of countries, in order to restore the tourism sector during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Vaccinated Travel Lanes is a tourism concept that is being initiated by several countries including countries in the Asia Pacific region for travelers or travelers who have received a complete dose of vaccine and can prove it with a vaccine certificate.
“The study of Vaccinated Travel Lane continues, but the government continues to monitor the level of cases in various countries,” said Airlangga after a limited meeting on the evaluation of implementation of restrictions on community activities (PPKM) at the Presidential Office, Presidential Palace Complex, Jakarta, Monday (11/15).
Indonesian President Joko Widodo (Jokowi), according to Airlangga, has ordered the ministers of the Advanced Indonesia Cabinet to pay close attention to the provisions of foreign tourist visits.
The government, he said, would monitor the condition of the COVID-19 pandemic in a number of countries before making tourism travel deals with several countries.
Furthermore, Airlangga said that currently COVID-19 cases in Indonesia are in a better position than other countries.
The data presented by Airlangga shows that there are 1 case of COVID-19 in Indonesia per 100,000 population. While in Thailand there were 89 cases per 100,000 population, Singapore 454 cases per 100,000 population, Malaysia 127 cases per 100,000 population, and Australia 51 cases per 100,000 population.
If detailed based on the latest data as of November 14, 2021, there are 9,018 active cases of COVID-19 in Indonesia. Meanwhile, the addition of daily cases on that date was 339 cases.
Previously, Indonesia planned to enter into an agreement to open a joint travel corridor with a number of countries, including Malaysia. The two state leaders, namely the Indonesian President Joko Widodo and the Malaysian Prime Minister (PM) Ismail Sabri Yaakob, have held bilateral talks regarding the opening of tourism routes.
