DOMESTIC TRAVEL IS THE MAINSTAY OF THE TOURISM SECTOR DURING 2021

DOMESTIC travel is the mainstay and trend of travel during 2021. This is also encouraged by the government focusing on developing the quality of tourist destinations, rather than the quantity of destinations.

According to the Chairman of the Indonesian Tourism Industry Association (GIPI), Didien Junaedi said examples of a number of international events were held in a number of places, from Bali to Mandalika, West Nusa Tenggara.

“Thousands of people enter through various events such as the World Superbike in Mandalika, then the G20 in Bali. This is an example of Indonesia’s tourism development which is starting to improve. Along with that, many tourist villages in the vicinity have also been developed, and become a safe place because no crowds,” said Didien in an online media discussion on Friday (12/10).

Furthermore, Didien said domestic tourism is one of the keys to the revival of the industry in Indonesia, as well as encouraging economic recovery due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

“What can save Indonesian tourism is domestic tourism, considering that there is already much more to offer now,” he noted.

However, Didien did not deny that there are still challenges that must be faced by the tourism industry to welcome 2022.

“The existing obstacle is that the regulations applied are still not consistent. The second is the issue of funding, so that government funding is well structured for domestic tourism,” said Didien.

This, he continued, also affects future travel trends, which are still unpredictable following the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. Still can not be predicted with accuracy along with changes in regulations and policies.

“What is clear is that no one is pessimistic. Even though the pandemic still exists, the government through the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy continues to promote reasonably for Indonesian tourism, although not as much as before,” he concluded. [antaranews/photo special]
