HOTEL guests are certainly aware of changes when they stay at the hotel during the COVID-19 pandemic. Now there must be a means of washing hands and checking body temperature at the front of the hotel, to be precise before entering the lobby. Guests must also check-in the hotel with the PeduliLindungi application and comply with various health protocols to prevent the spread of COVID-19.
It turns out that this is not the only thing that has changed in hotel facilities and services during the COVID-19 pandemic. There is a design side that also adapts to the situation, and maybe only a few hotel guests know about it.
According to the head of Gensler, an architectural firm from the United States, Tom Ito conveyed several things that changed in hotel design during the outbreak.
“Hotel managers certainly renovate their properties according to the designs needed since the pandemic occurred,” said Tom Ito as quoted from the Hotel Management page. Here’s the hotel design that changed:
1.Technology
A number of hotel guests now no longer need to check-in at the lobby, take care of physical administration, get a room key, then enter the room. Tom Ito said that today’s hotels prioritize convenience, comfort and safety for guests. And they use cellular technology which is personal for everyone to access hotel rooms.
Now there are many hotel check-in facilities via cellphone. Upon arrival, guests can go directly to the room and enter with the code already stored on their cell phone. In the future, according to Tom Ito, this feature will reach a wider range of services and apply the latest technology.
2. Design changes
Design changes for efficiency, some guests may notice something is missing or the hotel design is simpler than before. All of that must have a reason. One of them is efficiency. With the number of guests decreasing during the COVID-19 pandemic, hotel managers must save money.
Not a few workers who were laid off and no longer in charge of taking care of the ‘something’ that was lost earlier. Therefore, guests who have a hotel subscription or become a ‘member’ in a hotel can certainly feel this change.
3. Create an open space
A number of hotels that allow to change the design of the building will break the closed spaces into open areas. During the pandemic, the existence of open spaces is important in hotels to ensure guests get smooth and fresh air circulation. Increasing the open space also makes it easier for sunlight to enter, thereby reducing the need for electricity to power lights. [sources/photo special]
