RI-PORTUGAL DISCUSSES BILATERAL IN TOURISM AND CREATIVE ECONOMY SECTOR

THE MEETING between the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy and the Portuguese Ambassador to Indonesia, Maria João Falcão Poppe Lopes Cardoso, at the Sapta Pesona Building, Central Jakarta, Thursday (12/16) discussed several potentials for bilateral cooperation in the tourism and creative economy.

Those are including development tourism products and the creative economy, exchange experiences related to sustainable tourism development, share tourism marketing best practices, especially online and offline branding communications and market knowledge of the two countries.

The Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy, Sandiaga Uno expressed his gratitude for the presence of the Ambassador of Portugal, Maria João Falcão Poppe Lopes Cardoso. He hopes that the potential for this cooperation will strengthen bilateral relations between the two countries, especially in the tourism and creative economy sectors.

According to Central Bureau of Statistics (BPS) data, in 2018 the number of Portuguese tourists to Indonesia reached 36,804 visitors. However, in 2020, the number decreased due to the COVID-19 pandemic, which limited people’s mobility. Meanwhile, Portugal itself was visited by 27 million tourists in 2019.

“I hope this meeting will result in strong cooperation between the two countries and we can collaborate with each other in developing the tourism sector and the creative economy. So that tourism is of higher quality and also opens up wider job opportunities,” he said.

Meanwhile, the Portuguese Ambassador to Indonesia, Maria João Falcão Poppe Lopes Cardoso welcomed the potential for bilateral cooperation between Indonesia and Portugal. According to him, this collaboration can stimulate tourism and the creative economy in the two countries that had been hit hard by the pandemic.

“Exchange of experience between Portugal and Indonesia, especially in terms of sustainable tourism, is very much needed. For that, I am very excited in establishing this collaboration,” he concluded. [traveltext.id]
