THE UNITED KINGDOM (UK) will abolish COVID-19 testing for travelers starting February 11, 2022. In its official statement, the British Embassy in Jakarta stated that tourists who have been fully vaccinated do not need to be tested for COVID-19 before or after arriving in the UK. Travelers are only asked to fill out a passanger locater form.
“If you have not been fully vaccinated it will be necessary to take a pre-departure test and a PCR test on or before the 2nd day after arriving in the UK,” the British Embassy wrote.
Travelers who have a negative PCR test result, do not need to be quarantined. Quarantine rules only apply to those whose PCR test results are positive.
In its official announcement, the Embassy also stated that starting today, 27 January 2022, the UK will no longer require its citizens to wear masks, including in public places and schools. However, the government recommends that masks be worn in crowded places and in crowded rooms. “You also no longer need to show your NHS COVID Pass in public,” the British Embassy said.
The UK is planning to return to Plan A, which is learning to live with the COVID-19 that may persist. The government is confident in implementing Plan A because of the administration of booster vaccine injections, antiviral pills, and the lower severity of Omicron compared to other variants.
Since last week, people have been asked to work in the office again. The work from home guide has ended. The use of masks in public places and the NHS Covid Pass are no longer valid today.
British Prime Minister Boris Johnson last week announced an end to COVID-19 restrictions, including mandatory masks, working from home and vaccine passports.
“Many countries in Europe experienced lockdowns in the winter, but the UK is taking a different step,” Boris Johnson told lawmakers.
He reasoned the easing because the number of people being treated in intensive care due to the Corona virus had decreased. He believes the Omicron wave in the UK has reached its peak due to a massive booster campaign. [sources/photo special]
