THE INCREASING number of cases of the Omicron variant of the COVID-19, apparently also has an impact on the hotel industry. PT Hotel Indonesia Natour (HIN), for example, said that there had been cancellations of hotel reservations since the omicron outbreak.
According to the President Director of PT Hotel Indonesia, Natour Iswandi Said, although the symptoms are low, the omicron virus is enough to make many people worry about booking hotels at this time.
“The number is quite large because people are worried. In percentage terms, it can be said that currently there are around 10%-20% of booking cancellation activities,” said Iswandi quoting from kontan.co.id, Monday (2/07).
Iswandi added, the majority of visitors who cancel hotel room reservations reschedule their booking dates. Very few cancels without moving the booking date.
According to him, this is because people are considered much better and experienced in anticipating the spread of the corona virus. In addition, hotel visitors have a tendency to make last minute bookings. This means, for hotel reservations made in advance, currently no one has canceled the booking, visitors are still considering how severe the threat of omicron is.
“These reservations include hotel reservations on interesting dates this year, namely during the MotoGP event and the G20 forum. To attract local and foreign tourists, PT HIN has prepared hotel accommodation and travel through InJourney and JelajaHIN,” he said.
Meanwhile contacted separately, CEO of PT Dafam Hotel Management (DHM), Andhy Irawan also said that the spread of the Omicron variant had an impact on the company’s business.
“Some Dafam hotels in Indonesia, especially for meeting events, have experienced many booking cancellations and some have also moved to an undetermined time,” Andhy noted.
Although he did not mention the number of booking cancellations and what events were cancelled, Andhy gave a explanation that the most canceled events were meetings from the corporations to the government.
Andhy explained, until now the occupancy rate of Hotel Dafam in all regions has varied, ranging from 40-70%. Currently, Hotel Dafam is present in 17 cities in Indonesia, namely several hotels located in the Jakarta and Yogyakarta areas. [sources/photo special]
