2 MINISTRIES TO ENCOURAGE FOREIGN AIRLINES TO INCREASE FLIGHTS HERE

THE MINISTRY of Tourism and Creative Economy is coordinating with the Ministry of Transportation to encourage foreign airlines to increase the number of international flights to Indonesia as the terms and conditions for foreign travelers are relaxed.

According to the Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy, Sandiaga in the Weekly Press Briefing at the Sapta Pesona Building, Central Jakarta, Monday (5/23), said that in line with the issuance of the COVID-19 Task Force Circular No. Treating PCR and antigen test results as the main requirement for foreign travel, the Tourism Ministry through the Deputy for Strategic Policy coordinates with the Ministry of Transportation to encourage international airlines to increase the number of flights to Indonesia.

“We will continue to improve tourism competitiveness with competing countries and of course we hope this will further stimulate (the economy) and the target of 1.8 million to 3.6 million (foreign tourist visits) can hopefully be achieved,” said Sandiaga.

The international airlines prioritized to increase the number of flights, said Sandiaga, came from five countries that contributed a lot to the arrival of foreign tourists to Bali, namely the United States, Australia, Britain, France and Singapore.

“We will continue to collaborate with airlines to increase the quantity and flight schedule and we will continue to carry out promotional programs with the theme of integrated cooperation such as at ATM (Arabian Travel Market) Dubai, SATTE (South Asia Travel & Tourism Expo) 2022, and our visit to “The markets with great potential are the five countries we mentioned earlier. We hope this will be a good signal and momentum,” he remarked.

Sandiaga added that the increase in the number of flights also aims to reduce flight ticket prices to make them more affordable for the public.

“Because the number of flights is very limited, the seat capacity is very limited and now we are working with dedication to talk to a number of (airlines) flights to increase the number of flights. So that ticket prices will be much more affordable and later there will also be promotions,” Sandiaga stated.

Moreover, he continued, there are a number of international events that will be held in Indonesia in line with the appointment of Indonesia as the holder of the G20 Presidency.

Meanwhile, the Deputy for Strategic Policy at the Ministry of Tourism, Nia Niscaya, added that in addition to coordinating with the Ministry of Transportation, her party also coordinated with a number of aviation associations to encourage the addition of this number of flights. At least the number of flights can return to what it was before the pandemic period because airlines have not fully recovered. [traveltext.id]
