EYEING FOR RI’S TOURISTS, TOURISM MALAYSIA HOLDS A SALES MISSION IN 2 CITIES

TOURISM Malaysia and the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture Malaysia started a working visit in Indonesia (RI) in order to promote Malaysian tourism from 15-17 November 2022. This sales mission was led by Mohd Yusri Mohd Yusoff, Deputy Secretary General (Culture) Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture Malaysia, accompanied by Iskandar Mirza Mohd Yusof, Deputy Director General (Planning) of Tourism Malaysia.

According to Mohd Yusri Mohd Yusoff, in a press conference in Jakarta, Tuesday (11/15) said participating in this sales mission included 16 travel agents, 2 amusement park operators in Malaysia, 12 hotel representatives, Malaysia Healthcare Travel Council (MHTC) and Malaysia airlines.

“This sales mission is focused on two big cities in Indonesia, namely Jakarta and Medan. These two cities were chosen because they have good direct flight access between the two countries,” he said.

The sales mission program in Jakarta, he continued, is also a momentum to launch Malaysia tourism promotion through one of the largest e-commerce platforms in Indonesia, blibli.com, while the main program in Medan is the launch of Malaysia’s promotional collaboration with Malaysia Airlines.

“Since the opening of the entrance to Malaysia on April 1, 2022, until July this year, Malaysia has received as many as 435,156 visits by Indonesian tourists, even now the number of Indonesian tourists visiting is the second largest after tourists from Singapore. For this reason, Tourism Malaysia realizes that the potential market for Indonesian tourists is very large,” he said.

But when asked about the target number of foreign tourists this year, he immediately answered that this year Malaysia is targeting as many as 9.2 million international tourists to come to Malaysia with an estimated state revenue of RM26.8 billion.

“However, this time the sales mission focuses on making Malaysia the main destination for holidays, holding Meeting incentives Conference Exhibition (MICE) and shopping for Indonesian tourists. Malaysia also offers a variety of new tourism products to Indonesian tourists, such as Genting Skyworld and Skytropolis in Genting Highlands and Menara Merdeka 118 in Kuala Lumpur, which is the second tallest building in the world,” he remarked.

He added, I also want to convey his hope that this sales mission program will become a means for industry players to jointly restore the glory of the Malaysian and Indonesian tourism industries.

“We hope that this initiative will help increase the number of visits by Indonesian tourists to Malaysia,” concluded Mohd Yusri. [traveltext.id]
