DOMESTIC tourist travel is still going strong even though many foreign borders have been opened. Currently, people have a wide choice of domestic tourist destinations, thus increasing travel bookings.
According to Traveloka Chief Marketing Officer Shirley Lesmana in Jakarta (12/08) said that the domestic market is experiencing quite a positive trend, now people’s choices are more diverse, now people are also more exploratory.
“The pandemic has made most local tourists realize that Indonesia is very beautiful. Travel to Eastern Indonesia such as Labuan Bajo is a traveler’s favorite choice. There are some destinations that are stronger than they were before the pandemic. This makes the government and travel platforms work together, destinations that have been chosen are supported by good marketing and infrastructure,” said Shirley.
Meanwhile, at the end of 2022 there was an increase in trips, coupled with various promotions offered. Bali and neighboring countries such as Singapore, Malaysia and Thailand are still the belle of holidays. Meanwhile, Bogor, including Puncak, is a favorite staycation choice for year-end holidays.
“At the end of 2022 it is quite positive, the use cases are more diverse, starting from staycations, Bogor, Puncak, those that are a little farther to Bali or Southeast Asia,” she said.
The SEA e-Conomy 2022 report states that the travel sector is showing a gradual recovery trend and will achieve full recovery in 2023 and 2024.
The same report said domestic travel was showing a faster recovery trend, where it was noted that hotel bookings in Southeast Asia reached almost 80% of pre-pandemic levels.
Meanwhile, domestic air travel passengers in Indonesia and Malaysia reached 70% and 60% respectively compared to 2019. Traveloka’s internal data is also in quarter III/2022, that there has been an increase in bookings of up to five times for international destination travel, and more than 30 percent increase in bookings on travel to domestic destinations.
Overall, flight ticket bookings also increased up to four times compared to the same period the previous year. [sources/photo special]
