THE INDONESIAN Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy agreed to cooperate with the National Narcotics Agency (BNN) as an effort to disseminate information and provide education regarding the Prevention and Eradication of the Abuse and Illicit Traffic of Narcotics and Narcotics Precursors (P4GN) in the tourism and creative economy sectors.
This collaboration was marked by the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) between the Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy, Sandiaga Uno and the Head of the National Narcotics Agency, Dr. Petrus Reinhard Golose. The MoU signing procession took place during the “Weekly Press Briefing”, at the Sapta Pesona Building, Jakarta, Monday (5/29), 2023.
Sandiaga conveyed that this collaboration was a concrete manifestation of both parties in realizing an Indonesian society free from narcotics abuse.
“We are aiming for quality and sustainable tourism. And quality tourism is one of them free from drug abuse. Because indeed abuse in tourist destinations actually interferes with post-pandemic recovery,” said Sandiaga.
The Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy itself has been promoting anti-drug education, one of which is on the screens installed in each lift, education and invitations to avoid drugs have been played. On several occasions for events involving employees and the public, the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy has shown campaign videos from BNN.
“Through this collaboration, we want more massive outreach. Let’s collaborate for a drug-free Indonesia,” he said.
While the Head of the National Narcotics Agency, Dr. Petrus Reinhard Golose added that if viewed globally there are around 275 million drug users. Meanwhile in Indonesia, the prevalence is around 1.95%. Interestingly, during the time of COVID-19, this number increased by 0.15%. Therefore, all stakeholders need to jointly penetrate drugs, especially in tourist areas so that they can be prevented as early as possible.
“How do we educate our children, future leaders of Indonesia’s generation, our golden generation for tourism without drugs. I think this is what we need to clearly implement, “concluded Petrus. [traveltext.id]
