THE MINISTRY of Tourism and Creative Economy appreciates IndiGo Airlines for making its first direct flight from India to Indonesia on the Mumbai to Jakarta route.
According to the Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy, Sandiaga Uno in his statement in Jakarta, Monday (8/07), 2023 explained that connectivity is the key to increasing foreign tourist visits, especially since direct flights from India to Indonesia have been long awaited.
“Through this IndiGo flight, it is hoped that it will bring in more Indian tourists to Indonesia, thus contributing to increasing the country’s foreign exchange earnings from the tourism sector and increasing employment opportunities,” said Sandiaga.
Sandiaga also explained that the IndiGo plane’s landing in Jakarta also marked the re-opening of direct flight routes from India to Indonesia after a hiatus of 4 years. This flight will operate 1 flight per day.
“In the future, it is believed that more airlines will open direct flight routes, bearing in mind that the market trend for foreign tourists from India is always increasing and Indonesia is a very popular destination for tourists from India with its natural beauty and cultural similarities,” he said.
IndiGo Airlines will use an Airbus A320 aircraft numbered 6E-1601 which will depart from Mumbai at 07.55 Indian time and arrive in Jakarta at 16.10 WIB carrying 167 passengers.
As a series of tourism promotion programs and to support the inaugural flight, the Ministry of Tourism is also collaborating with IndiGo, namely holding an online contest on social media for prospective foreign tourists from India as well as Famtrip media and Indian influencer activities in Jakarta from 7 to 10 August 2023.
