INDONESIA’s President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) said the construction of the new Nusantara National Capital City (IKN) in East Kalimantan was the largest project currently in the world.
“In the world today, there is only one largest project in Indonesia, which is called the Capital City of the Nusantara,” said Jokowi while attending the 2023 National Association of Indonesian Real Estate Companies (REI) in Jakarta, Wednesday (8/09), 2023.
Jokowi said the Indonesian government dared to open new economic centers by building IKN on Kalimantan Island.
He revealed that currently there are 34,000 hectares of land in IKN that can be purchased. Tens of thousands of hectares of land, said Jokowi, can be owned by purchase, not obtained for free.
“(As many as) 34 thousand hectares of land can be purchased. There are no freebies there. How much does it cost? ask the Head of the IKN Authority. this is an opportunity, this is an opportunity,” Jokowi said in the forum.
On this occasion, President Jokowi also said that based on data from the Central Statistics Agency (BPS), Indonesia’s economic growth was 5.17% (year on year/yoy) in the second quarter of 2023. This indicates that Indonesia continues to maintain economic growth above 5 percent for the seventh straight quarter.
According to him, among the countries and regions that are members of the Group of Twenty (G20), only Indonesia, India and the People’s Republic of China have been able to achieve economic growth of above five percent.
“In the G20 that is growing, the G20 countries that grow above 5% are only Indonesia, India, China. Furthermore, I asked REI to strengthen collaboration with the government,” he said.
He wants the poor people to be helped to be able to have healthy and decent housing. In addition, the Head of State reminded that the construction of houses or other types of property must pay attention to social and environmental impacts.
“This is important. Do not let after the construction of a residential area, for example a nearby village, the well water runs dry, the village area becomes flooded.
