THE INDONESIAN Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy has begun preparing an outreach program regarding tax levies for foreign tourists (tourists) to Bali amounting to IDR150.000 (US$10) which will be applied to various tourist market countries.
According to the Ministry’s Deputy for Marketing, Ni Made Ayu Marthini, in the “Socialization of Bali Province Regional Regulation Policies for Foreign Tourists” which took place in Denpasar, Bali, said that this socialization was carried out so that prospective tourists, including the tourism industry in market countries, could fully understand the intent and the purpose of imposing tax levies on foreign tourists to Bali which has been regulated in Bali Provincial Regulation Number 6 of 2023 concerning Levies for Foreign Tourists for the Protection of Bali’s Culture and Natural Environment.
“Today’s activity is one of a series of socialization that we are carrying out to support this socialization (Tax Collection for Foreign Tourists). We are also making communication plans for our roadshow to various market countries such as Australia, Japan, London, and others,” said Made, Monday (9/25), 2023.
Ms. Made emphasized that according to the direction of the Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy, Sandiaga Uno, socialization must be carried out well within a positive narrative frame so that the aims and objectives of this regional regulation can be accepted and become one of the foundations for continuing to improve tourism in Bali towards quality, culture-based, dignified and sustainable tourism. for the interests and welfare of the Balinese people.
It is believed that this policy will not burden foreign tourists but will actually support providing better tourism services.
“We support this levy for foreign tourists and we don’t want this to become an issue (debate). Therefore we want to socialize this policy well because the aim is clear so that Bali tourism can continue to be sustainable, cultural and dignified,” said Ni Made Ayu.
Meanwhile, the Head of the Bali Provincial Tourism Office, Tjok Bagus Pemayun, on the same occasion revealed that this policy is planned to come into effect in February 2024. For the initial stage, the tourist tax levy will focus on two programs, namely waste handling and management as well as programs to maintain cultural customs. Bali.
“This program will be implemented throughout Bali, this (program) looks at Bali as a whole. Currently the Bali Provincial Government has carried out outreach to various parties including foreign embassies and airlines,” he said.
