THE BINTAN Triathlon sports-based tourism event will be held again in the Lagoi tourism area, Bintan, which will strengthen Bintan and the Riau Islands in general as the country’s leading sports tourism destination.
According to the Deputy for Tourism Products and Event Organizers of the Ministry of Tourism, Vinsensius Jemadu, at the launch of the “Bintan Triathlon 2024” at Balairung Soesilo Soedarman, Jakarta, Thursday (03/7), 2024, said that organizing events is mainly sports-based tourism (sports tourism) is one of the most effective instruments in attracting tourists, both foreign and domestic tourists.
“(Bintan Triathlon) has entered its 20th year of implementation, this means how consistent Bintan Resorts is in organizing this event. Not only has the number of participants increased, but the quality of organizing the event has also increased,” said Vinsensius Jemadu.
This is in line with Indonesia’s tourism goals, namely providing quality tourism that has an impact on the social, environmental and economic life of the community. How the implementation of tourism has an impact on economic revival as well as opening up employment and business opportunities.
“But regarding the quality of tourists, there is no need to question Bintan. The contribution of the Riau Islands is significant and this year the minister is targeting the Riau Islands to contribute 3 million foreign tourists,” Vinsen noted.
The 2024 Bintan Triathlon will take place from 1 to 2 June 2024 at Lagoi Bay and is targeted to be attended by more than 1,500 participants from 40 countries including Indonesia. The 2024 Bintan Triathlon will be divided into several race categories starting from Enduro which includes a 1.5 km swim, 80 km bike, 20 km run, to the Olympic and Sprint categories which are lighter than Enduro.
Apart from competitions, this event also presents participants in special categories for teenagers and children, such as Kids Splash and Dash. The competition category for this age aims to provide an exciting experience as well as inspiration for them to get to know and love the world of triathlon.
Meanwhile, the Chief Operating Officer of Bintan Resorts, Abdul Wahab, said that his party had prepared a special program for participants from Indonesia by providing a registration discount of 20%. We will also coordinate with hotels so that later we can provide a 20% discount for Indonesian athletes.
Likewise, the Head of the Bintan Regency Tourism Office, Arief Sumarsono, said that tourism events, especially sports-based tourism, have a big impact on tourism development in Bintan.
“This year, foreign tourist visits to Bintan Regency reached 500 thousand. We hope that this event (Bintan Triathlon) will have a significant impact on the number of foreign tourist visits to Bintan,” Arief remarked.
At the same event, the Head of the Riau Islands Province Tourism Office, Guntur Sakti, said that the overall target of foreign tourist visits to the Riau Islands was 3 million.
“This number is divided into four entrances, namely Batam at 2.3 million, Bintan 500 thousand, Tanjung Pinang 100 thousand, and Karimun Regency at 100 thousand. And this (Bintan Triathlon) is one part of our efforts,” Guntur concluded. [traveltext.id]
