THE INDONESIA’S Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy has revealed that there are a number of airlines ready to introduce new international flight routes to Indonesia.
According to the ministry’s senior expert staff, Nia Niscaya in “The Weekly Brief with Sandi Uno” at Sapta Pesona Building, Central Jakarta, Monday (07/22), 2024, said that there are currently three airlines preparing international flight routes, namely Jeju Air, Batik Air Malaysia and Super Air Jet.
“Jeju Air is an airline from South Korea that will open flight routes from Incheon to Denpasar, Bali and vice versa. “Jeju Air will open flights from Incheon to Denpasar from October 27, 2024, which will operate seven times a week with a capacity of 180 seats per day,” Nia said.
She added that Batik Air Malaysia will launch flights from Kuala Lumpur to several destinations in Indonesia, namely Surabaya, Lombok, Padang and Pekanbaru with a capacity of 150 passengers each. For the Kuala Lumpur-Surabaya and Kuala Lumpur-Lombok flights, the inaugural flight will be on August 1, 2024, while the Kuala Lumpur-Padang and Kuala Lumpur-Pekanbaru flights are scheduled for August 10, 2024.
“In fact, Super Air Jet will also offer a Kuala Lumpur-Aceh flight on August 3, 2024 with a capacity of 180 passengers. If we look, the Kuala Lumpur origin can of course be used by people who live in Malaysia, but (passengers) can also be from other countries. Because Malaysia is also connected to different parts of the world,” she remarked.
Nia explained that air connectivity is very important to strengthen the tourism and creative sector in Indonesia, especially in terms of attracting visits from foreign tourists (tourists). This is because about 70 percent of foreign tourist arrivals to Indonesia use air transportation.
Apart from this, the addition of flight routes could also help Indonesia to achieve the 2024 target of foreign tourist visits, namely 9.5 million to 14.3 million visits. Based on data from the Central Statistics Agency, as of May 2024, there were 5.24 million foreign tourist visits to Indonesia.
