SEVERAL AIRLINES READY TO OPEN NEW INT’L FLIGHT ROUTES TO INDONESIA

THE INDONESIA’S Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy has announced that several international airlines are ready to open direct flight routes to Indonesia.

One of them is the airline from the United Arab Emirates, Emirates, which will increase the flight quota to Indonesia, as conveyed by the Ministry’s Senior Expert Staff, Nia Niscaya, in “The Weekly Brief with Sandi Uno” at the Sapta Pesona Building, Central Jakarta, Monday (08/05), 2024 said that starting from September 1 to October 26, 2024, Emirates will operate two fleets.

“We would like to thank the Ministry of Transportation for giving permission to Emirates Airlines and also thank Emirates Airlines because this will provide more choices for tourists and from us of course this will help to achieve the target of foreign tourists to Indonesia,” said Nia.

Nia explained that with the addition of these aircraft, Emirates’ flight capacity will also increase from 7,301 seats per week to 8,610 seats per week. This also provides an opportunity to attract foreign tourists from various countries as Emirates’ services reach more than 150 destinations.

Recently, several international airlines have opened new routes to Indonesia. Among them are Jeju Air, Batik Air Malaysia, Air Asia, China Southern Airlines and Starlux. Jeju Air is an airline from South Korea that will open a flight route from Incheon to Denpasar, Bali and vice versa starting October 27, 2024.

Then, Batik Air Malaysia will open a route from Kuala Lumpur to several destinations in Indonesia, namely Surabaya, Lombok, Padang and Pekanbaru with a capacity of 150 passengers each. The Kuala Lumpur-Surabaya and Kuala Lumpur-Lombok flights were inaugurated on July 31, 2024, while the Kuala Lumpur-Padang and Kuala Lumpur-Pekanbaru flights were inaugurated on August 10, 2024.

Then, Air Asia launched a route to six cities in Indonesia. Starting with the Brunei-Jakarta route from August 2, 2024 with a schedule of three flights per week. Also, the Kota Kinabalu-Denpasar route starting August 9, 2024 with a schedule of three times a week; the Phuket-Denpasar route starting August 10, 2024 with a schedule of three times a week; Cairns-Denpasar starting August 15, 2024 with a schedule of three times a week; Kota Kinabalu-Manado starting September 1, 2024 with a schedule of three times a week; and Kuala Lumpur-Labuan Bajo starting September 2, 2024 with a schedule of three times a week.

Meanwhile, Starlux, a new full-service airline from Taiwan, will launch a new Taipei-Jakarta service starting September 1, 2024. The flight schedule will be five times a week. The last one is China Southern Airlines. One of China’s largest airlines will reopen the Shenzhen-Denpasar route starting August 19, 2024, with a schedule of seven flights per week.

Of course, the addition of this route is expected to accommodate the increasing number of foreign tourist visits and support the movement of domestic and domestic tourists. Moreover, based on data from the Amadeus Global Distribution System (GDS), Indonesia has now become one of the preferred destinations for foreign tourists.

This can be seen from the data, based on the Amadeus GDS, the number of travel date searches with the keyword Indonesia reached 689 million (as of August 5, 2024). Then, from the number of booked return travel dates (as of August 5, 2024), there were 1.33 million booked travel dates to Indonesia. These figures show that the ratio of searches to bookings by travel date (as of August 5, 2024) is 0.193% bookings or 0.193 bookings per 100 searches.

“GDS Amadeus data shows that there is a potential of 687 or around 99.81% of searches that can be penetrated and stimulated to make bookings. From the search data, it is clear that Indonesia has started to become top of mind for foreign tourists.
