THE MINISTRY of Tourism and Creative Economy has expressed its readiness to fully support the implementation of the 1st Indonesia Quality Tourism Conference (IQTC) as an effort to strengthen the development of sustainable tourism in the country.
According to the Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy, Sandiaga Uno in “The Weekly Brief with Sandi Uno” at the Sapta Pesona Building, Jakarta, Monday (08/19), 2024, said that the conference, which will be held for the first time in Bali on August 29-30, 2024, is one of the efforts to support the development of sustainable tourism in Indonesia.
“It just so happens that the timing is very timely because I and the Coordinating Minister for Maritime and Investment Affairs, Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan, will be implementing more transformative quality tourism in destinations,” Sandiaga said.
Sandiaga explained the conference with the theme “Building Quality Tourism Experiences Through Sustainable Practices and Collaborative Innovation” is a collaboration between Coordinating Ministry for Maritime and Investment, the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy, LPS (Deposit Insurance Corporation), Bank Indonesia and the World Economic Forum (WEF).
This event will be attended by 300 participants from various ministries, institutions, local governments, tourism associations, academics, tourism industry and international organizations. This event is expected to strengthen the mindset of sustainable tourism development and increase Indonesia’s Travel Tourism Development Index (TTDI).
“Seeing the participation of the World Economic Forum in this event, we can say that increasing the TTDI requires the cooperation of various parties,” he affirmed.
On the same occasion, the Director of Strategic Management at the Ministry of Tourism, Indra Ni Tua, added that the increase in Indonesia’s TTDI ranking from 32nd to 22nd in the world is expected to have a positive impact on the development of sustainable tourism in Indonesia.
“When we talk about quality, we measure it from the evaluation side, not just through output, but through impact. So how does it affect the environment, how does it affect the competitiveness of our industry, and later on the economy and culture,” Indra underlined.
Likewise, the Deputy for Tourism and Creative Economy Coordination of the Coordinating Ministry for Maritime Affairs and Investment, Odo Manuhutu, added that this event is one of the implementations of the 2002 ASEAN Tourism Agreement on Quality Tourism.
“We hope that this conference can strengthen the development of sustainable tourism in Indonesia and in ASEAN countries,” concluded Odo. [traveltext.id]
