NATIONAL Geographic travel magazine released its list entitled “Best of The World 2025” or the best places in the world in 2025. The list revealed the 25 best tourist destinations in the world that are interesting for travelers to visit. Interestingly, there is a tourist destination in Indonesia (RI) that is on the list.
According to National Geographic editor-in-chief Nathan Lump, the list offers a variety of trips, from climbing active volcanoes in Guatemala to diving the underwater beauty of Indonesia in Raja Ampat. The destinations and activities were chosen directly by explorers, photographers, and National Geographic editors.
“I think of Best of the World as National Geographic’s annual invitation to explore for ourselves the incredible diversity of places and experiences around the world. This year, in a time of uncertainty and difficult challenges, that feels more important than ever. I hope our 2025 list serves as a reminder that there is still so much to look forward to, and that through travel we can connect with joy and hope,” said Nathan Lump, as reported by USA Today.
National Geographic calls Raja Ampat a place of incredible marine wonders. It is home to some 500 species of coral, more than 1,000 species of reef fish, and creatures like manta rays and dugongs. Zebra sharks are also making a comeback thanks to conservation efforts.
The area is so remote that it can only be explored by boat. Tour operators Abercrombie & Kent and Aqua Expeditions are launching immersive cruises in 2025 that highlight the archipelago’s ecosystems.
National Geographic Expeditions is also exploring Raja Ampat on a 20-day “Exploring Indonesia by Sea” cruise, while Rascal Voyages offers charters on its wooden phinisi, a traditional Indonesian sailing vessel.
