AS A FORM of concern for people with special needs, in this case people with autism/down syndrome Vasaka Hotel Jakarta in collaboration with Matalesoge hospitaABLElity Academy held a one-day training with theme Housekeeping and F&B Service at Vasaka Hotel Jakarta on Saturday (11/02), 2024. The event which took place from 9.00 WIB to 15.00 WIB.
According to Nancy Fenyapwain, General Manager of Vasaka Hotel said to empower skills breaking barriers, this activity has a series of events consisting of housekeeping and F&B service material sharing with role playing, and the event became even more lively with musical performances by ‘Mata Squad’ band, which aims to provide education related to empowering skills and abilities for people with special needs.
“We held this activity as part of our hotel’s empowerment program in the implementation of the ESG (Environment, Social, Good Governance) program launched by the hotel since the beginning of 2016, where we collaborated with MATALESOGE HospitABLElity Academy to show our concern for individuals with needs, especially by making our hotel chain a friendly hotel for iindividuals with special needs, and also providing a place for them to hone their skills and social skills,” she said.
Nancy explained, it’s too sad, especially since we recently read a news story about a special needs student being turned down by a hotel for an internship because the hotel management had it’s own standard criteria for employees to be able to offer training/internships to people with special needs.
“If we look at it, the hotel industry has not yet implemented comprehensive recruitment. The implementation of disability accommodation in hotels is limited to accommodation according to the needs and specifications of the hotel. The implementation of diversity supply has not been carried out because there is no information or data that shows the existence of companies with people with disabilities,” she elaborated.
The implementation of marketing aspects in hotels in this case, Nancy continued that is limited to friendly inclusion and is generally intended for guests. This is done to improve the image of the hotel. So, for this we will continue to work with Matalesoge hospitaABLElity Academy as a hospitality training center for people with special needs, so we from the hotel will add criteria according to the hotel’s needs to recruit the training participants from Matalesoge hospitaABLElity Academy.
“In the future, we want Vasaka Hotel Jakarta to be an example for other hotels to empower people with special needs to work in hotels. For us, people with special needs have basic rights, human rights, to learn and work just like normal people,” Nancy Fenyapwain affirmed.
Meanwhile, Tommy Hermanses, Founder/CEO of Matalesoge hospitaABLElity Academy added that empowerment is a pure value that must be “transmitted” through forums and communities that have the same humanitarian vision. Any individual, community or institution that cares about inclusiveness will always join hands to provide equal opportunities.
“With this event, we hope that more institutions will care and understand the world of inclusivity. Thank you to Vasaka Hotel Jakarta for giving us this opportunity and in the future, we hope we can fulfill of Vasaka Hotel Jakarta programs, I hope this hotel will also be a pioneer in the hotel industry in strengthening this program,” he concluded.
