JATILUWIH TOURISM VILLAGE TO BE THE WORLD’s BEST TOURISM VILLAGE IN 2024

MINISTER of Tourism, Widiyanti Putri Wardhana admires and highly appreciates the implementation of sustainable tourism principles in Jatiluwih Tourism Village, Tabanan, Bali, which is consistently operating and can have a positive impact on local community empowerment, cultural sustainability, and environmental sustainability.

During a working visit to Jatiluwih Tourism Village on Monday (12/09), Minister Widiyanti said that Jatiluwih Village had shown high commitment and dedication in developing the potential of cultural heritage through the implementation of the subak system, which is the basis of agricultural practices in Jatiluwih, so that it was designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2012.

“Although it was only designated as a tourist village in 2016, the village of Jatiluwih has long demonstrated community efforts to develop cultural and environmental conservation,” said Widiyanti.

In line with these efforts, Jatiluwih is increasingly becoming one of the main destinations for tourists in Bali, as the DPP ASITA Prov Bali stated that currently about 80% of foreign tourists to Bali visit Jatiluwih Tourism Village.

With the achievements and good practices of tourism development, Jatiluwih was then designated as a Certified Sustainable Tourism Village through the Ministry of Tourism’s Sustainable Tourism Certification for Tourism Villages (SertiDEWI) 2024 program. In the same year, the Ministry of Tourism also proposed Jatiluwih as a nomination in the international arena and was selected as one of the winners of the Best Tourism Villages by UN Tourism, together with Wukirsari Tourism Village (D.I. Yogyakarta).

“Sustainable tourism development is a principle that is the basis for the implementation of the Ministry of Tourism’s Flagship Program, one of which is through the Tourism Village Development Program, which is believed to be able to promote economic growth while integrating local wisdom and preserving the environment,” added Widiyanti.

She explained that I also hope that the local government, associations and industry will realize the implementation of sustainable tourism in other tourism villages both in Tabanan Regency and Bali Province, and encourage sustainable tourism certification for tourism villages.

On the occasion of the working visit to Jatiluwih, Widiyanti together with Deputy Tourism Minister Ni Luh Puspa signed the “Best Tourism Village by UN Tourism” inscription and discussed with local tourism stakeholders. Also present were the Regent of Tabanan, I Komang Gede Sanjaya; Head of Bali Provincial Tourism Office, Tjok Bagus Pemayun; Head of Tabanan Regency Tourism Office, AA Ngurah Satria Tenaya; and Operational Manager of Jatiluwih Tourism Village, I Ketut Purna.

Meanwhile, Deputy Tourism Minister Ni Luh Puspa said that Jatiluwih Tourism Village became the first tourism village in the first working visit of Tourism Minister Widiyanti in Bali. “We can take Jatiluwih Tourism Village as an example to be developed in other areas that tourism and industry can go hand in hand, tourism and culture can go hand in hand,” Ni Luh Puspa added.

The achievements of Jatiluwih Tourism Village are expected to be an inspiration for the development of other tourism villages in Indonesia. The Deputy Minister of Tourism encourages strong cooperation among all tourism stakeholders, including the industry, to support destinations, especially those that prioritize community traditions and culture.

Likewise, the Acting Deputy for Destination and Infrastructure Development of the Ministry of Tourism, Hariyanto, said, together with the regional governments present, we also hope that there will be more strategic cooperation and program coordination between program interventions carried out by the central government that need to be supported by regional governments and related stakeholders.
