DKI JAKARTA Governor, Pramono Anung expressed his optimism that the mass rapid transportation (MRT) Jakarta Phase 2A project connecting Bundaran HI to Kota will be operational as targeted in 2029.
This was conveyed by Pramono when he inaugurated the launch of Tunnel Boring Machine (TBM) 1 CP202 at Harmoni Station on Friday (05/9), 2025. The TBM will be used to bore a 1,195-meter tunnel from Harmoni to Mangga Besar as part of the construction of the underground MRT line.
“The development of the MRT Jakarta project, especially MRT Phase 2A, whose construction has reached 48.14%. Hopefully, this synergy can continue so that MRT Jakarta Phase 2A can be operational in 2029,” said Pramono.
MRT Jakarta Phase 2A is a continuation of Phase 1, which connects Lebak Bulus to Bundaran HI. This new line will extend public transport connectivity from the city center to the old city area with a track length of about 5.8 kilometers and seven metro stations, namely Thamrin, Monas, Harmoni, Sawah Besar, Mangga Besar, Glodok and Kota.
When the Phase 2A line is operational, the public will be able to use the Jakarta MRT from Lebak Bulus to Kota and vice versa.
According to Pramono, the progress of the MRT Phase 2A project actually shows an acceleration from the original plan.
He said the acceleration opens up a great opportunity to complete the project on time and even allow for earlier operations if construction conditions remain stable. “If that can be done, then the design and construction is actually going according to plan,” he said.
In addition, the DKI Jakarta provincial government is targeting completion of the line to the Ancol depot in 2030. In addition to the north-south line, Pramono said his party was preparing to develop MRT lines in the east and west as part of a strategy to reduce traffic congestion.
“This is the heart of Jakarta’s transportation from south to north. We will also prepare MRT for the east and west. In fact, traffic congestion cannot be solved by only one section,” he explained.
The Jakarta Provincial Government (DKI) continues to promote rail-based public transport as an environmentally friendly, efficient and sustainable mobility solution for the city’s residents. With the later operation of MRT Phase 2A, it is hoped that more residents will switch from private cars to public transportation. [kompas.com/photo special]
